Re: English Football 2015/16

The spin put on TSO at RM is definitely Hate Cult in full effect.

However unpleasant he was, he is one of the longest serving managers at RM since 77, with only one manager outlasting him by a couple of months.

The nine managers before him lasted at best one season and change, some less than that.

Real go through managers like chaff. Jose was not chaff.

CA is a nicer guy with a better win rate and about equal trophy score give or take milage gonna vary CL v La Liga, lasted one season less.

Real Madrid

Re: English Football 2015/16

lol "hate cult" when talking about Jose Mourinho.

He's an incredibly dislikeable person and only gets worse with age. Nothing cultish about hating on him. You're Chelsea-blinkered but I can assure you that he's on the same level as Suarez... Suarez wins on level of horribleness but Mourinho hits him out of the park on frequency. That people largely hate on odious pricks like this gives me some faith that people aren't all that bad.

Would I have him as manager of my football club, though? ****, yes! And I wouldn't even encourage him to be less of an absolute **** for fear of dampening whatever makes him such a winner.

Cult gonna cult.

FWIW, cult extends well beyond if he is nice or not.

BAIDS et al do not even think he is a good manager relative to others, just one with good hair.

If hating on Mourinho is a cult thing, I should be a cult leader

Re: English Football 2015/16

I am slightly put out to be honest. If there is a Mourinho hate cult I want to be in it but I have to admit he is clearly a talented manager, so maybe I don't qualify.

I thought it was completely standard to recognise he was supremely talented but a vile ****. Like Alex Ferguson but not quite as talented and even more of a dick.

This hurts too. Did you just call me a plop fan?

I am Sheffield Wednesday. Obviously the above still applies but I was more talking about a hypothetical world where I owned a big club and was looking to get the best value for money out of a manager. I know that sheer brute force of spending more ££££££££££££ than anybody else is the biggest factor, but doesn't mean that some managers aren't better than others.

Re: English Football 2015/16

The narrative surrounding TSO's tenure at RM is HATE CULT in a nutshell.

Hounded out because he was so unpopular and horrible, etc etc, blah blah.

When no manager has lasted more than 3 calendar years at RM since Miguel Muñoz 1960-1974.

Out of 34 managers since then apart from Jose only 3 have managed it.

So in fact relative to the media and drama bomb ******edness that is RM, Jose did really well in pure staying in the job terms, yet this is painted as his biggest failure at RM with him some how getting a premature boot for reasons.

Re: English Football 2015/16

Hard to hate Fergie... are you ****ing kidding me?!

His teams played great football but he was definitely easy to hate. I think towards the end even the most ardent haters could put his astonishing record to the fore but I'd say between 1998-2003 when he had only secured legend status and not necessarily GOAT status... non-Man U fans hated him and didn't find it difficult.

Re: English Football 2015/16

I feel like I am learning today about the Mourinho hate cult, but also that OAFK leads the Mourinho apologetics cult.

To pretend that Mourinho's personality wasn't a big factor in his exit means you ignored all of the noises that came out of RMD at the time.

first you can forget about value for money - no manager in the history of football has spent more than jose, and anyway hes not even going to consider managing your club unless you offer him a blank cheque.

assuming you have unlimited cash and want a winning team, call jose. but only if you are ok with watching your unlimited money team parking the bus at home for 60 mins (+30 aet) in a tied game vs 10 men in the CL quarter final.

fact is its close to impossible to fail to deliver winning football over the long run with unlimited bux, the historical record is very clear on this, and the only thing jose guarantees on top of that is that it'll be done in the most boring possible fashion.

sorry about the pool mixup

Re: English Football 2015/16

fyi the mourinho cult came first, then the cultists decided to identify the 'group of fine upstanding gentlemen who properly understand joses value adding qualities or lack thereof' which they named the hater cult

the original cult came about when cultists started attributing chelsea's 9 point league lead with 3 games out of hand in march of 2014 to joses incredible management and press conference skills, but those connections stopped being commented on when they lost to sunderland and villa and palace in the space of a month. the cult, however, remains strong.

Lets see some of the Hater Cult handwaving over TSO at Inter and Porto.

Re: English Football 2015/16

At Porto he was relatively unknown and an underdog team- while I laughed my ass off with the Eto'o playing RB at Inter it was quite the italian buspark.
Anyways I don't know if you can compare those 2 teams to Real-Chelsea where you have unlimited funds and still your main weapon is deadly boring bus parking...

Teams that spend many £££ assembling a squad tend not to be thrifty when it comes to appointing a manager. You can't just look at the historical record of clubs with £££ having success and conclude that's all that matters, because those same clubs tend to have had highly regarded managers too.

He's got a great record at every club he's managed. Unparalleled, even. But then he's spent more at different clubs than any other manager has too, so comparisons are difficult. I don't believe just any old manager could go and achieve that but it's going to be difficult to prove obv.

I am aware of the turgid football. I think it wins him more games that he might otherwise have lost, rather than the other way round. Again, tough to prove either way, but I believe it so I'm sticking to my talented **** evaluation.
