the good old "palpable error" rule. If a quoted price is clearly wrong and was never intended to be laid, bets can be voided.

Deeney is actually fine and a sneaky good play because of peno duties. Don't like Jerome too much. Way better options for short term, also rotation with mbokani is an issue. Ayoze(takes corners and likely penos with Cisse out) is a good pivot if you need salary.

To all the spurs-boomers, my mate has made the same £250 bet with me every year for the last 6 years on spuds finishing above arsenal. This year he finally decided to stop throwing his money away so it's probably a lock at this stage. Lump on.

He's a Liverpool fan apparently. Reports today are saying that Pools transfer committee didn't think he was worth the fee. Brendan wanted the deal done.

Really sad news about Lomu, I thought he was older than 40. Human wrecking ball on the field.

The spuds capitulation year was the funniest.

@Consty, Are the shrewdies just piling on Spurs for individual games or has their top 4/title(lol) equity also seen a marked change? (If there is even enough liquidity in these markets for such a change to be significant.)

Both. They're 2.58 for top 4 (Pool 3.4, Chelsea 4.7). Their opening prices for individual games are usually already quite short looking but it hasn't stopped larger money pushing them shorter, like they're 1.59 to beat West Ham on Sunday, that's top 4 short really. Even in the NLD they caused Arsenal to go on a 12 tick drift at one stage and Arsenal have arguably been the strongest market side this season so far. Sunday will be interesting to see if an already short price steams. I suspect it will.

its all quite bunched up for top 4 - a spuds loss on the weekend combined with a chelsea win* = spuds drop to 3rd faves among chelsea/pool/spuds for 4th

*i realise that a chelsea win seems fanciful but its important that all possibilities are taken into account when doing this sort of analysis

Betfair implies % outcomes as follows:

Spurs - 63%
Draw - 22%
West Ham - 14%

I suppose a lot of what drives these prices comes down to two players. Harry Kane is seemingly reaching the kind of level he was playing at last season. Whereas Payet for West Ham is missing having been integral to basically everything good that West Ham have done this season up to this point.

Still seems crazy even considering the above (and other obvious factors) and I might lay Spurs, even though I don't normally bet on matches except for fun if I'm planning to watch them (no reason to think I usually have any edge).

Exactly. Spurs are still odds against finishing top 4.

And they are only 4th favourites by default due to Chelsea imploding, Man Utd struggling to muster 1 shot on target every game and Plop spending £100m and going backwards for the third summer in a row.
