Arsenal squad not really that young... I'm honestly surprised.
Pool and Chelsea's teams are actually young.

Our squad has been pretty young last couple of years. Just a lot of our first XI had a fair old (er) guys.

Kdawg, I'll take this hundo with MindFckr (his $111 to my $100) and you can take from LFC? Does that work for everyone?

LFC, quote to book, your $111 to my $100, you have Arsenal I have UTD season bet on higher finish in tblitw.

The goal is not to be the youngest team in the leauge, the goal is to win.
Was just checking it out considering yesterday Arsenal fans mentioned multiple times their team is young.

Rosicky probably a better player.

Re: English Football 2015/16

Yes Rosicky is better than the 17y old. Rosicky is definitely still good enough to rotate for Arsenal.

I believe what was said is that many of our core/key players are relatively young while the opposite is true for many of citys most important players.

Just because random young player x scores or gets an assist in a pre-season friendly, it doesn't make him the next big thing. It's a very long season and young players with no experience at this level will obviously suffer from it with far bigger swings in their performance to be expected.

Yeah rosicky is obviously a better player , just mentioned it as he will probably play the least out of the whole squad and he is the oldest so it does kind of skew the stats.

And yeah the team is young , probably only mertesacker and cazorla who will need replacing in the next 2-3 seasons.

Think you need to work on your sarcasm detector fella , super Jeff will probably only get a few carling cup starts. That said Bellerin came in from nowhere last season so it's not totally against the odds that a youngster can make an impact - more likely to be Akpom or gnabry than JEFF tho

I posted tables in the old thread about average squad and starting xi (minimum 10 appearances) similar results to what Mirzolzayn posted above.

I agree with this, but it's a little tricky to work out how to award points for accuracy.

For example, say player1 predicts
Chelsea
City
Arse
Utd
Spuds
Plop

and player 2 predicts
Plop
Chelsea
Utd
Arse
City
Spuds

and the league finishes
Chelsea
Plop
Arse
Utd
Spuds
City

.. who deserves to win?

Re: English Football 2015/16

tbh I don't really get the 'young squad' thing.
Most of the discussion was revolving this year's title challenge.
Yeah your team may have a better future but this doesn't change much for this year's results.
2-3 years in football is a long loooooong time anyway.

Anyone wants to arrange a 5 year dynasty draft? (something like this, that would be awesome)

Re: English Football 2015/16

Well, you don't get it because you've just been glossing over posts over and over. It's been stated many times.

Arsenal fans have said that we have a young squad for one that can hopefully contend. The last few years our team has been younger, but players like Ramsey/Wilshere/Ox etc were just promising teenagers, now they're in their early to mid 20s. Just being young for the sake of youth leads to inexperience and usually falling short. We now have a mix of youth in our core with experience sprinkled around in Arteta/Cech/Rosicky/Mertesacker for leadership. It's just better than the squad being led by Vermaelen or a 22 year old Cesc or a "here's the armband, plz don't leave" rvp/

As others have said, only Cazorla, Mertesacker and now Cech of our best ~15 players will have to be replaced with someone younger in the next 3-4 years. Being able to be excited about the current situation and realize he future is very bright shouldn't be some foreign concept to understand.

We've had one Zolzayn, my only problem was in the last round I wanted one young Arsenal player so I wavered between Serge Gnabry, Hector Bellerin and...Ryo Miyaichi.

Don't they want to loan out Gnabry? Was he injured much last season? Because I cannot recall hearing much about him anymore.

He was injured most of last year and has been linked with a loan move to West Brom for this upcoming year.

I get all this, I just think there is a lot of mixed logic itt regarding this conversation.
It's really back and forth between future and present.
For example, what you're saying is the now-not-very-young-but-actually-matured players are going into their prime while having older players give experience to the team for a healty mix. Which is fine.
But your point does not really support the young-player-theme. Maybe it's a linguistic issue and we should all find the correct word to replace 'young'.

Also: it was definitely mentioned here that the team will be better in 2-3 years which is a completely different discussion.

Re: English Football 2015/16

Well, Arsenal fans have spent much of the last decade hearing jokes and comments about "Wengers kids" then falling short in every competition. It's legitimately exciting that those "kids" are now very, very good players and will not be sold to a better team for more profit, instead being with us for the next 5-10+ years.

Re: English Football 2015/16

Well when you say citys squad is better than arsenals it's relevant that arsenals squad will have less turnover and will be in better shape in the coming years (in addition to being able to compete this year). You should probably specify if you want to look at current starters in a complete vacuum of just this season when saying one squad is better than the other if that's what you are intending. Otherwise you just look like a dense turd trolling (I'm not convinced that this isn't the case though). Poor man's Joe Diego if you ask me.
