That's definitely a valid counter-argument. I still contend that Jose's body of work across numerous leagues and clubs should be given more weight than one three-month disaster.
Although I will concede that there is surely something to the 2-3 year shelf life argument for letting him go. I think someone like PSG should be thrilled if they can get him, but I acknowledge that's not the same thing as saying Chelsea could keep him.
It comes down to the replacement, like it always does. AVB showed that it may not take a genius to make a rich team win, but the wrong man can certainly ruin it. I'm sure Roman is weighing his options and he'll need to make the call based on who he thinks he can get.
I'll also point out that in Liverpool's case retaining Rodgers enabled them to get Klopp. If they'd insisted on canning BR last June, which was perfectly defensible, they might have Frank de Boer today. Roman could be moving on in his head but still decide to give Jose the season (and what an amazing roller coaster ride it'll be if that is the case).
