Since it's an International Break, I feel like a completely OT rant about HMRC is kind of excusable. Can't be any worse than the "was Stanley Matthews better than Gareth Barry" topic at least.

Spoiler:
So a few weeks ago, my ex-wife told me she'd received a demand for over £2k from the tax office. Apparently it related to an over-payment of tax credits from 2003 (the year we split up) and it also mentioned my name on the demand. Of course, she was pretty confused / anxious about it, but I assured her it would be fine since A: it's unlikely we even received that much back then and B: debts over 6 years old are almost always unenforceable. I did a little research online, and asked the legal guy in my office to help me pen a simple letter for her to send to them, politely advising them to piss off.

Anyway, this saturday she got a scary red letter from a debt collection agency. Turns out HMRC had ignored her reply to their demand, and sent in the men with dogs to chase a disputed debt from 12 years ago. I spent a bit of time over the weekend researching the legal side of it (my mate in work had already convinced me there was no way they could legally pursue this debt, so I already knew I was right but wanted to be 100%), and I've just got off the phone after a 45-minute wait for an advisor on the infamous Tax Credits Helpline. Bottom line is I was right; they accept they can't legally pursue the debt, but their handbook assures them they're legally entitled to ask for it. So in other words, they're just trying it on.

Now, my ex is not going to have to pay this money back and she hopefully won't be harassed any more about it so there's no real harm done in this case. But what about the tens of thousands of other people out there, presumably mostly poors or at least people who've encountered some sort of financial difficulty at some point, who are now getting scary red letters from men with dogs demanding relatively large amounts of money? How many of these people don't realise the tax office have no legal grounds for making these demands, and just cave in and set up a payment plan? It's making me pretty mad just thinking about it.

Anyway, completely OT but I just felt like ranting. Perhaps someone ITT might receive a demand for an historical alleged overpayment one day and benefit from knowing that anything over 6 years is out of bounds.

Those damn poors should have worked harder in school. Then they wouldn't be stupid and poor now (and could maybe go see a football match once in a while, too).

New LMS starting this Saturday, €10 to matt20 on stars or pm for bank deets or paypal (if you have them already then send away but for the love of god only send in Pounds!) Prefer euros so it's $12 if sending $ on Stars and is £8 if sending bank or paypal.

Last one had 146 runners and is down to the last 2, both of whom are 2p2ers. TheGoatian and Gerrard48LFC (bastards). A chop has been offered but looks like its gonna be declined!

lol

I once filed a tax return that lead to HMRC owing me a fortune. They approved it but I didn't receive the money. I chased them several times, eventually it got elevated to a more senior bod. He phoned me and was pleasant and helpful, but his summary was "I'll get the payment to you as soon as I can but even if I don't, there's basically **** all you can do about it as there is essentially no required time frame in which HMRC have to pay you back, so we can basically hold onto it until the end of time. Toodle-pip."

I got paid a few days late but I was on the brink of ****ting in an envelope and sending it to Parliament Street.

Does Brent still get paid his full severance by Liverpool if he takes another manager job this quickly? I never understood that in sports. I'd be like LOL fire me I'll go somwhere else and get paidddddd while you continue to pay me
10-12-2015 , 11:10 AM
he's presumably still under contract, just "relived of his duties", which is why he's still getting paid. If he wants to coach another team, he'd have to get out of his plop contract, so they'd do a "mutual termination of the contract" or sth, Brent would be free and Pool off the Hook for his wage. That's how I understand it.

It's also possible that plop and Rodgers already settled to void the contract for some kind of termination payment.

Anyway I don't think Brent can keep getting his regular Pool wage in adddition to coaching a new club.

A few days ago a TV broadcaster came to the restaurant as germany's most famous TV cook came for a visit(my boss worked as sous-chef for him for a while), was pretty awkward tbh
hours aren't much of a problem for me(with poker I do 75h/week). hardest was having to give up most of my soccer(can usually only train once a week) and I really miss it

lolol I was gonna say I hope it wasn't Tim Mälzer, clicked the link to your post and voila, first mention suspected the same

And you still have time for us.

sherWOAT is villas highest paid manager. pretty amazing when you think about it. (i know inflation etc, but still)
10-12-2015 , 12:54 PM
if we do sack sherwood in the next week or 2 i think its complete and utter **** up once again from our board.

Fat sam or rodgers? snap take fat sam. Ill be quite worried if we got rodgers tbh. Whilst hes obviously a better manager than sherwood, the problems were facing with sherwood will be the same problems we will face with rodgers. **** defensive organisation, not knowing the best 11, and playing ******ed formations throughout the game. Really dont want him, i feel like im being spoilt if we turn down a great, great manager like rodgers but do not want that monumental bellend.

Really dont get why we didnt get fat sam now if werre planning on sacking sherwood within the timeframe of them fixtures that mndfckr posted
10-12-2015 , 01:02 PM
isn't fat sam at Sunderland already?

quick google search confirmed it...so basically Rodgers it is, IF he accepts.
I can see him just taking some time off and getting a team that is going to be lower risk high reward similar to Swansea. Maybe if WestBrom or Stoke can't get their **** together quick enough. Pretty crazy how good you have to run shortterm to keep your job as a football manager these days if you think about it

Our beloved pundit Alan Smith named his top 5 players of the season thus far...I tried to guess it before I watched the 2minute video and needless to say I failed miserably.

His picks- I got 2/5...props to anyone who gets more.

Spoiler:
Butland
Vardy
McArthur
Silva
Payet
