Not even Klopp coaching Ingerlund during Italia 90 could have prevented them from being ****e.

How many of the current team could go abroad and succeed? Waddle and Steven did well at Marseille, Lineker played 3 years at Barca and Gazza and Platt GOATed tblitw.

Wasn't Waddle also one of the best players in the PL aged about 45 for Bradford and Sheff Weds? Ditto Des Walker.

England had several world class players in '90 - England 2015 have Rooney. Says it all.

And stop with the insults people!
I am pretty sure Gascoigne replaces Ross Barkley, even if playing blindfolded and even if his training/fitness is 25 years out of date.

Re: English Football 2015-16

as to why I never actually thought we could win the WC in 1990, I thought I'd explained that I was young and drunk and it seemed like England were just God-moding the tournament(as someone's pointed out, we were super lucky to win the group, did our best to lose to Cameroon and almost went to pens vs Belgium). It's all just based on FEELS, but it always just FELT like our luck was due to run out. I'd have fainted if we'd have actually beaten zee germans, and maybe when I woke up I'd have given us a chance of shipping the trophy.

Not an England fan and actively root against them, but they have run worse than any other major international side since the turn of the millennium.

I read recently that Des Walker is currently working as either a bus man or a bin man. Sad times.

A fine piece over at the mirror on how misguided we are

Unfortunately, for the likes of Edwards, all the analysis in the world didn’t stop Emre Can from booting the ball into his own defender at Everton, allowing Romelu Lukaku to level.

And as long as I live, that ain’t gonna change. No matter what the geeks say.

Take a bow Neil Moxley

The greatest irony is that he keeps referring to how these scam artists make six figures whilst he gets paid to shovel this mountain of utter tripe.

Well he's right it's a scam - I doubt Edwards knows any more than the room full of geeks on 25k a year each, who probably ***** and moan more than this thread how badly interpreted stats are.

When people select a Greatest Ever XI, do you just chuckle to yourself that anyone can pick a player who doesn't currently play?
I mean, how could you ever select Moore or Charlton or Lofthouse or Finney when the game has moved on so much since their day?

Jesus.

Despite Bayern's firm stance that he is not for sale, Muller refused to rule out a potential move to England in the future and believes the money being invested into the Premier League is good for football.

"In the end, we should not forget that playing football is our job," Muller told German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

"So people should accept that wages will always play a role in a player's decision-making. Of course, the wages that are being paid in the Premier League are very tempting. It would be hypocrisy to deny that.

"You have to look at the complete package to determine whether something is right for you. What's good for you one day will not necessarily still be good for you the day after.

"I know that a lot of German clubs are unhappy with the Premier League clubs' spending, but I think it is something good for all clubs in the end. It can only be a good thing for football when clubs invest so much money."
When's his contract up for negotiation? Bayern might need some shinier shirts imo.

FYP and Obviously.

If Klose spent his whole career at a club in a sht league I.e Aberdeen, scored 1,000 goals, would he be classed as the greatest ever?

Now go back 50 years, decrease the skill level by ~30%, and you will have the answer.

In his mind this is how stats are done at top teams:
Manager goes in to meeting room, tells all scouts they're fired
Buys a computer
Hires a 21 yr old kid fresh out of university who knows nothing about football but MATH
Something something zonal marking

You may as well say Pele wouldn't get into the current Brazil team because he's 74.

Hasn't it even occurred to you that older generations of players, if subjected to modern training methods and nutrition would be even better than they were back in their day?

You semantic troll.

Re: English Football 2015-16

But why is pele considered the greatest and Klose isn't?

It's because the World Cup was the pinnacle back then and the brain washing started in the 70's through the claustrophobic media that suffocated and manipulate the weak minded in the world after he won the 1970 World Cup because he was the main man and Brazil were the greatest ever because they have won the World Cup the most, right?

Brainwash through a couple of more generations when kids ask their father's 'who was the best dad?' dad says Pele/Brazil, failure after failure in high variance tournaments diminishing Pele's legacy and then Brazil the GOAT finally win another World Cup, 24 years after 1970, Pele is selling Viagra and all the olds feel good.

And these same people say that if Messi doesn't win the World Cup he cannot be considered as the greatest or as good as Pele or Maradona.

Does this sound familiar?

Does this extend to the likes of Maradona and Cruyff? Was Jordi better than Johan?

Would Stuart Dallas keep George Best out of the N Irish side?

Being the best of you era is all what matters and arguing otherwise is futile. But don't disregard the evolution of sporting intelligence amongst the elite because of nostalgia as the elite are trying to be remembered before anyone else.

That's why people wanna break records.

Re: English Football 2015-16

It's similar to the never ending arguments that people have over who the greatest chess player of all time was.
Fischer at his peak would probably be trounced by any top 50 player today, simply because technical knowledge has improved immensely since his day. But postpone his birth by 40 years and it's a different story.
