Here's the thing about van gaal and united. They are super boring but martial and Memphis have at least added some good attacking dynamics (martial is really good, and we probably look back on what they paid and think of it as a steal which is legit insane).

They are incredibly good defensively. They allow the least amount of passes completed in their defensive zone by a substantially large margin. Their pressing to win back the ball is fantastic as well. Unfortunately Everything they do after they get the ball is boring and sterile. They basically are saying we will limit the chances you get and by nature limit our chances as well, but our chances will be of higher quality and we have better players so we will win.

It's boring, but really effective. If they run bad on finishing though it will be hard for them to make up for it by creating more chances.

Not a poker player but wouldn't brent = that moneymaker dude? An unknown nobody who luck boxed an incredible run then never did anything remotely similar ever again? Or does the moneymaker title make the comparison invalid?

gold did the same as moneymaker but also acted in a generally brentish manner thereafter. also he's broke now iirc

not sure if I like the ME winner to coach anologies. Everyone pretty much hated Gold and Yang from the moment they became known. With coaches, at first people think they're legitimately good.

^ but the gold/brent tendency to attribute random fluctuations of positive variance to the genius of the self is too perfect

Phil Ivey = Arsene Wenger

Was ahead of his time, but now classed as a fish vs the elite managers.

arsene wenger = solid midstakes crusher
great winrate with minimal variance but doesn't have the bankroll to hang with the big boys in the high variance high stakes games

Or has the bankroll but is unwilling to gamble.
