Yeah this is a legitimate point, however we were up against Man Utd and City (3 points behind both in January), and so we didn't have great title equity, and at the time were miles (12 points?) ahead of Arsenal and it really didn't look likely they would catch us, or that Chelsea would win the CL.

In addition, the striker we would most likely have bought was Damiao.... whatever happened to him??

Half expected 'new kit deal' to pop up on that list of achievements. Will admit I'll be pretty jelly when Taylor Swift is performing at New Hart Lane

This is like a double edged sword though. Pre-ENIC, we used to spend a lot of money.... on trash like washed-up Les Ferdinand and Ruel Fox. Levy gave Baldini/AVB all the Bale money and it's not Levy's fault it was so badly invested.

Dier we will just have to agree to disagree on, but I'm not sure who else was really available who would have been a huge upgrade on him. Only Man City have conceded fewer goals than us this season, and although Dier is limited going forward, we are still creating chances, plus his physical presence is vital in both boxes from set pieces.

Carroll is our 5th or 6th choice in CM but I'd still rather have him than £15m Joe Allen.

The only club in premier league history to win the league without spending fortunes was Arsenal under Wenger. Those days are long gone, with the amount of money in the game and the more competition within the league - there were only two teams who could win the league from 1996-2004.

Spurs' ev in the league is 6th place and hopefully a few good cup runs; we haven't finished below 6th, reached two finals and two semi finals.

Re: English Football 2015-16

Speaking of spurs I was surprised to see you can get 6/4 (on ladbrokes) on them finishing top 6. Can probably get even better once they get trashed by city tomorrow. I don't see them being much worse than Liverpool and I'm not buying any of the s'ton/palace/swansea/everton hype despite what the model might say.

needless to say i've jumped on it

Under Redknapp we played some great football and I will always view his time as manager as the best time in my history supporting the club.

But, we had King, Woodgate/Kaboul, Walker, Modric, Sandro, Bale and VDV. Kaboul had a similar progression to Kompany, but multiple serious injuries killed him. Sandro was an absolute beast before he suffered an ACL injury vs QPR and hasn't been the same player since. King, Modric, Bale and VDV were all world class and Walker was voted PFA Yong player of the year.

Redknapp leaves Spurs, spends a small fortune at QPR and can't save them, spends again and has the strongest squad in the championship, only gets promoted by a last minute goal in the play offs. He then spends another small fortune in the summer, QPR are still AIDS, chairman sees this and refuses to back Redknapp in the winter, Redknapp throws his toys out of his pram and leaves QPR and is stil unemployed.

There is a high probability that the players we had was the reason we finished higher than expected. Imagine if Spurs had a Simone or Klopp as manager during those times and instead of resigning Keane, Defoe and signing Crouch, we might have signed Costa or Lewandowski instead.

Re: English Football 2015-16

Pep should probably turn down 15m+ / yr. Even 20m over 4 seasons isn't worth losing out on potential earnings when he becomes unemployable because England still look like England and not Bayern Munich or Barcelona. Really he should go to PSG next if he still isn't scared of Ibra.

Re: English Football 2015-16

he cant turn down 20m/year imo, all it takes is one tragic season and the pep brand is in the gutter. grab the megabux while its there

granted its difficult to have a tragic season when u have the best 11 players in your league but its not impossible, and once his guru days are behind him there will be no more 20m/yr offers

really he should take england job alongside a psg/barca type job, haul in 25m/yr or something and if england are crap then he has a good excuse, can just say oh it was a mistake to take on so much work, i couldnt devote all my time to england which is why my milner hendo midfield doesnt look like prime barca

ofc our sterling/barkley/kane/ox(?)/wilshere/studge/stones/clyne/shaw generation is likely to win 3-4 major international tournaments so maybe he should just take the offer and hoover up the credit

Pep has indicated that he won't be managing for a long time. I'd bet that after another year or two at Bayern he'll manage a team in England for 3-4 years and that will be it.

yeah rodgers is like #1 for smelling farts hubris ainec

dude cant even get any semblance of gegenpressing or midfield triangles progressions that frees up the #10 in good positions happening that ive ever seen like the 200ish mins ive watched of pool the past couple years

fielding retreat-retreat-retreat-lump-skrtel is pretty damn lol too for someone who spews forth with philosophy nonsense
