Ya pulis teams tend to outperform theit awful shooting stats so ya there's that. I don't have any relegation convictions outside castle or sunderland, pulis is an easy target to wish misfortune on.

newcastle down would be a big loss for the PL

West sunderford easily 3 to go down

C'mon - you should have a better model than that, whatever your wishes. (Did you hate on CPulis?)

Look at (i) the strength of the fixture list for us for the first 5 games (5pts from those fixtures is outperforming the expected value of the strength of 'up-to-30-games' of last season), (ii) the Berahino saga - simply as it positively effects overall team strength from now until January.

[edit] obv it's tough to model effects like (ii), but (i) is a ldo.

probably the best away trip in the PL, about all that would be a loss

- and the Geordie fans are mostly pretty decent sorts imo. But football/Ashley wise ... not so much

bwom have a good number of pts on the board vs schedule. but otoh played 60 mins vs 9 men stoke and came away with roughly equal xG. cant be a good omen.

love a good loltoon but they'll probably figure it out, fair bit of talent (altho markt doesnt seem to agree)

s'land are ofc full wank

Ashleycastle going down right before the new cash cow kicks in would be glorious.

BAIDS makes good points ..

but the glass-half-full view is

i) we won the game and in a characteristically Pulis way sat on a 0-1 away lead. ok, not particularly convincingly but still ...

Again, I'm not sure what the value of the xG-stats are in individual games, eg, at specific scorelines. There's a lot hidden in there and because of the name it is more hidden than the shots/shots on target stats.

(I do believe that the generators of that stat calculate it reflects eventual points totals better than/as well as, eg, shots-on-target-vs-shot-on-target-allowed.)

ii) Berahino. I'm pretty sure he will improve the quality available from that for the Stoke game until he next becomes unsettled - ie early December.

He stayed on the pitch after all 3 of those too didn't he?
09-21-2015 , 04:47 PM
There will come a time when he gets himself sent off in a big game which Chelsea go on to lose. Mourinho will be on life tilt which will make it glorious. He will blame the media for a witchhunt even tho Costa will have headbutted someone and kicked them on the way down.

Can't wait for it.

this got me curious... who are these players that can tilt the **** out their opponents, provoke a lot of red cards, but have themselves in check and don't perform dangerous action against opponents themselves? Must be a short list.

Am glad neutral fans are weighing in on LFC's managerial situation. They wanted Rafa sacked and Hodgson to be given more time. Really valuable input there.

Don't really care what Liverpool do with Rodgers but he seems to be fighting a losing battle. Think the majority of Liverpool fans now want him gone because they all see Klopp sitting on his hands and will be a saviour. Once the fans want you out its pretty tough to come back from. If he loses the Merseyside derby in a couple of weeks then I think he gets canned.
09-21-2015 , 05:51 PM
the poasters here are i think in general well informed about variance etc so might give him a bit of slack but poolfan at large want and expect something like:

year 1 take over a bad team, install the brentian system of play, finish 7th

year 2 make some signings, score a few more goals, concede a few less, finish 6th

year 3 push for top 4, have a decent cup run, finish 5th

year 4 finish top 4, get to a cup final

and so on. incremental advances and no backsliding keeps him in the good books forever, but this finish 2nd then go back to being lolpool aint gonna cut it. brent out.

Jens Lehmann? Also I may be blinded by the Van Nistelrooy incident but Martin Keown struck me as someone who could be a bit of a bastard but ultimately kept himself together.

jimmy bullard probably got a few sent off just by virtue of having the most punchable face in sport
09-21-2015 , 06:26 PM
Robbie Savage?

Van Bommel- Teflon man.
