quite likely i will have a similar revelation sometime in the future with beer as well
If you like Riesling, try one from Washington State called "Kung Fu Girl" -- it's remarkable and not very pricy ($12 at my local).

Belgian beers full of obvious fruit flavours, so which ones are they?

Only ever had mass produced swill, all tasteless piss.

Just pour some Ribena into a pint of Becks, the effect is the same and you'll be a fiver richer.

Orval, Chimay, Westmalle, St Bernardus, the list goes on and on.

This guy gets it. Euro beers aren't bad, the scene here is just so incredible these days.

Pilsner Urquell here is pretty terrible. I was like 23 and free in Europe at the time so probably just tasted better in my mind. I'll still maintain it's better over there than the **** they bottle over here.

When ever I see one I have not seen before I try it as assuming it must be run bad, but they all fail in the same way. Take some tried and tested formula, put a spin on it, spin fails horribly.
Which ones have you tried? I'll try to help you see if you are running bad or just drinking ****ty beer

Thankfully many brunellos are under $100.

I'm a massive fan of: Canal Sopra, Sesti di Sopra, Fuligni, Uccelliera(most of the time), Casanova Di Neri White Label(the tenuta is good, but I'm oak averse), Le Potazzine. Those are just off the top of my head.

I'd also say not to sleep on Felsina's line-up as they make some killer Chiantis and the Fontalloro.

This could get Cashy to hate Riesling. He lives in Austria and has access to a ton of killer German and Austrian Rieslings. A cheap American imitation won't cut it after he's had Keller.

No, just trying to help you save some dollars to pay for your inevitable IKTS defeat. I don't really dig Belgian beer, I find the taste too strong after more than one or two.

Didn't really have the gimmicky/over the top stuff in mind when I said that although I take your point. That's just taken as a given (for beer as everything else) in the land of excess and I personally don't give or take any points away from America for it. It's just not the same thing IMO.

I have my favourite types (more likely to enjoy a given stout/porter) but I'm sure I'm richer for trying beers of all types indiscriminately. For example, I am not a huge fan of IPA as a rule but I'll try a new one if it comes recommended and occasionally hit one I really enjoy. The best thing about beer is the variety IMO and I think I'm doing LFC a favour by pointing out why he's wrong to dismiss a whole category as he does.
Believe me, when i go to Europe I'm not bringing my own IPAs from America t drink with me or anything. I want to try everything Europe has to offer. I've tried quite a bit. Some I really enjoyed, and some was really good, just not beer that is like oh my god I need to go back and have that beer again, until I stumbled on that Kabinet Brewery which is relatively new.

It's also not nearly as accessible as it is here and selection is way ****tier, at least in places I've lived and traveled. As more true craft beer breweries start opening up I think some great things are going to come out of Europe, but for now I'd much prefer the vast majority of what the USA has to offer.

As for warm beer, I guess it's personal taste. I love IPAs and tried a few in England (one of the places was the bar someone here recommended outside Fulham's ground, another in Bristol, and another in London) and it was just gross to me. The whole consistency of the beer was strange but the taste was not good and tasted more like a syrup than a beer. That's not the best way to describe it but I can't describe it any better.

And re: the session, we have tons of session beer here. Some are actually really good, but obviously lack the taste of their hoppier, stronger % cousins. For example if you drink a big IPA or 2xIPA and then drink a session it's not gonna taste as good. Obviously

I have friends who rave about Brewdog Punk IPA. I've had it in a bottle here and it was decent. I know they're out of Scotland. Also, especially with IPAs but most beer in general on tap >>>>>>>>bottle. And freshness makes a HUGE difference with IPAs

In the context of a beverage, warm means it has been heated. If somebody wants to bastardize the nomenclature they can go ahead, but I'm going to call it stupid, cos it is.
To clarify, for the purposes of the this discussion I'm using the term "warm" to refer to beer that is served at room temperature or "warmer" than traditional beer as we know it here in Yank#1Landia. I am not, in fact, referring to beer that is boiled or heated up like coffee
09-18-2015 , 10:52 AM
LFC, when you refer to warm beer are you talking about cask ales as well?
09-18-2015 , 10:53 AM
Brewdog Punk IPA is terribad.
09-18-2015 , 10:57 AM
The one thing I will say about Ale in the UK, is lots of pubs keep it utterly terribly.

There is a huge probability of trying a great Ale and thinking its **** because the pub kept it badly, you really have to go to an "Ale" pub to get it proper. Or live in Yorkshire.
09-18-2015 , 11:02 AM
Generally not a fan of IPA, but since everyone always raves about their favourite IPA, I always give them a try. Not sure I've had that one though. Will look for it next time.
