It wasn't my point that Yanks haven't experimented with beer, just that they're not unique in doing so. The good stuff they produce - and there is plenty to be found - are just variations of a theme. That's what beer has always been about and not a revolutionary thing. Yanks are just a little overexcited because they're no longer completely lousy at it.

Didn't really have the gimmicky/over the top stuff in mind when I said that although I take your point. That's just taken as a given (for beer as everything else) in the land of excess and I personally don't give or take any points away from America for it. It's just not the same thing IMO.

I have my favourite types (more likely to enjoy a given stout/porter) but I'm sure I'm richer for trying beers of all types indiscriminately. For example, I am not a huge fan of IPA as a rule but I'll try a new one if it comes recommended and occasionally hit one I really enjoy. The best thing about beer is the variety IMO and I think I'm doing LFC a favour by pointing out why he's wrong to dismiss a whole category as he does.

Warm is a silly way to describe something served at room temperature. We don't call tap water warm (unless you use the wrong tap).

PSA for dimwit Brits. Cold and warm are relative terms.

Boring pilsners is what you get in Iceland/Scandiland, lol at german/czech pilsners being boring.

Haven't tried a lot of english beers but Hobgoblin is one I pick up on the semi-regular and it's excellent. Scarecrow is another but not as fond of that one.

Uk beer might be relatively warm to Yanks, but its not warm to me, is that relative enough for you?

You support Yanks trying to objectivise there subjectivity on us?

Re: English Football 2015-16

Warm is a relative term, it's fairly obvious that when people say English beer is served 'warm' they mean 'warmer than the temperature they're used to beer being served at'. Not being able to comprehend that is just standard OAFK, as well as the obligatory 'no u' in his reply.

Its a clever tactic, roll out with the ad hominenms and meta attacks and then cover your self with a NO U accusation, thereby making a comeback self fulfilling.

Nice work for a pleb.

I'd consider it deliberately ironic if I thought he was clever enough for that. Unfortunately he isn't.

Re: English Football 2015-16

I only jumped on the usage because I'm pretty sure LFC uses "warm" as a pejorative term cos he can't fathom that beer doesn't have to be chilled or ice cold. Warm beer would be a little bit weird but as has been pointed out, it's not served warm, it's just not chilled.

In the context of a beverage, warm means it has been heated. If somebody wants to bastardize the nomenclature they can go ahead, but I'm going to call it stupid, cos it is.

When I was in England a couple of years ago the beer that I was served at every pub was colder then the beer I get back home in the States.

Says the guy who took my drinking an ale to warm my core literally.

Re: English Football 2015-16

The descriptive temperature of a beer should be relative to the beer type and its optimal drinking temperature not the person drinking it.

That way when someone says do you want a warm lager, or do you want a warm ale, no one is confused. Presently I would not know if the latter statement if said by a Yank meant a standard ale at room temp or an ale that was actually warm.

Look at my first post on this topic, I actually said I was being sarcastic in a spoiler.

You still took it seriously.

You need things totally on the straight level and obvious, which is why the flavour of pils is moot to you.
