I mean that doesn't seem that likely either. What's the league avg for the NFL? They only play 16 weeks - maybe 18 on average including the playoffs. Has to be more than ~$1.3m, surely?

Re: English Football 2015/16

an nfl roster has like 50 people on it, most of them making a couple hundred grand. avg 1.2m/year (non pro-rata) sounds about right

i dont think any of the non ipl numbers are pro-rata

Re: English Football 2015/16

from Forbes: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbade...s-nba-players/

dividing by 1.6, that's approx: NBA: 3m; MLB: 2.4m; NHL: 1.6m; NFL: 1.25m

NBA Average Salary: $4.9 million for the 2013-14 season.

Kobe Bryant was the top-paid player at $30.45 million for the 2013-14 season, as well as this year at $23.5 million. The minimum salary was $490, 180 ($507,336 for 2014-15).

MLB Average Salary: $3.82 million for the 2014 season.

Cliff Lee had the highest salary at $25 million. The minimum salary in MLB was $500,000 ($490,000 in 2013).

NHL Average Salary: $2.58 million for 2013-14 season.

The top salary last year was for Shea Weber at $14 million. The minimum salary was $550,000 (same in 2014-15).

NFL Average Salary:$2 million for the 2013 season (the 2014 figure is still being finalized and will be slightly higher).

Jay Cutler had the highest base salary in 2014 at $17.5 million. Matt Ryan received the most cash at $24.5 million, including bonuses. The minimum salary for the 2013 season was $405,000 ($420,000 for 2014).

--
I think that makes NFL higher than IPL pro rata - but it's pretty close I agree and obv NFL players have to be with their teams before the season, whereas IPL players don't - not that that helps them vast majority of the make $

So average salary of 4.6M.

But then often teams end up having the rights of more than 15 players that they're keeping for their upside but aren't good enough to play in the 15men roster. Those people are usually really cheap like <1M year
Yea think you nailed it. Must take into account the full 15-man roster re:NBA, full 40-man for MLB, and whatever hockey does. Doubt that soccer figure takes into account the full 23-man roster. Dudes on Norwich who never see the field are making >$1m/yr? Doubt it.

NFL the obvious outlier and definitely the worst sport itw to play as a average/mediocre player $$$ wise

I think it is the lesser of two evils. Without it and with some clubs (and one club in particular) dwarfing all of the others in this country commercially you would otherwise have a situation where Manchester United win the league 50% or more of the time and others might be able to borrow the trophy occassionally. Manchester City and Chelsea brought some competition.

I have gone back through every league table since the start of the Premier League and taken out the clubs that have had some financial assistance (so City, Chelsea and Blackburn). Whilst imperfect, without them the winners of the 23 Premier League titles would have been:

Manchester United - 17 (SEVENTEEN)
Arsenal - 5
Plop - 1

That's right - without the oil dollars, PLOP MAY ACTUALLY HAVE WON A LEAGUE TITLE. This is obviously not something anyone should be expected to tolerate, so let's encourage more financial doping.

Re: English Football 2015/16

its looking unlikely that poch is able to outperform superior teams through sneaky foreign tactics such as playing a high line and pressing high up the pitch, so you probably need a new manager who will play an even higher line and press even higher up the pitch.

still in "appoint trendy foreign manager" phase probably
maybe getting 6th or whatever it was counts as "initial success" and selling kane/finishing 12th is next on the agenda

85 mins elapsed and West Ham are still goalless at home in the EL to the 3rd placed side in Malta, Birkirkara. West Ham SP was 1.06.

Edit: West Ham score in injury time.
