The ship sailed long ago for my solution, but then my motivations are different from many people. In no particular order, I would:
1) Reintroduce terraces.
2) Return football so that Saturday 3 o'clock kick offs are the vast majority - maybe 1/2 games per weekend can be moved to Sunday.
3) Change the ridiculous structure so that those that qualify for the Big Cup are winners and everyone else is a loser.
4) Distribute money more evenly throughout the pyramid.
5) Either abolish the Europa League or make it relevant.
6) Changing ticket pricing to prevent games being full of middle-aged blokes, who are pretty much the only people that can afford it.

There's probably a ton of other stuff as well, but since US sport fans aren't complaining I won't go any further.
Up for 1), 2) would run the risk of killing this BTVDITW bonanza, I don't really agree with 3 (CL is the GOAT tourney), but if you "fixed" it, 5) would sort itself out.

6) I think the PL could introduce some kind of rule that said that teams had to make x% (say, 10%) of their stadium available for home fans at a reasonable price. Would make quite a big gesture and if all the clubs were signing up to it, it wouldn't be too much of an opportunity loss for clubs. However, the clubs control the league and are too greedy to do so.

The working-class built the sport, and now are being priced out. That's where the complaints are coming from. Lolyanks should go back to winning the 'World Series' in baseball 100+ years in a row.

TV experience better anyway for the most part.

Not opposed to some reforms though.
This being luxury entertainment is not how it has always been. Look at the origins of football clubs - this was meant to be the working man's sport.

2) I personally don't care about killing the cash bonanza.
3) The European Cup was always the premium tournament - who would have thought that when the best teams in Europe play each other, it might be exciting? However it doesn't need to be done the way it is now and it is absurd that qualifying for the group stage is basically the be all and end all. I agree that if you make some changes here then the Europe League needs a change or abolition as well.

One of the most ridiculous rules is that clubs knocked out of the group stages of the Champions League are allowed into the Europa League. Has anyone worked out yet why UEFA introduced this rule?

they can compete, they just choose not to. their bent russian is worth about twice as much as chelsea's bent russian and they've got 200m in the bank due to all the penny pinching.

i think hoopie might get his way on ticket prices, as match day revenue becomes a smaller and smaller (particularly from the section of the ground that isnt paying for caviar at half time) piece of the pie the PR boost of cutting prices becomes less and less costly - squeezing your home support for an extra £2.5m per year is pretty important when your total income is £20m, but not so when it's £200m due to btvditw

yup. bayern seem to do just fine charging their fans one hundo quid for a season ticket when in theory they're delivering an even better product

Re: English Football 2015-16

buyern are a good example of markt forces working to lower ticket prices - they get a greater proportion of revenue from commercial deals than just about anyone (>50%). good PR is worth its weight in gold.

so they do stuff like charging a small section of their fans a pittance, a load of naive germans think its because the club is run by very kind men who just want working class fans to experience the beautiful game, and it means t mobile are prepared to throw even more cash at them in order to be associated with such a fine upstanding pillar of the community.

That's probably true of all sports in NA too. I'm sure they all started out as a working man's sport. The popularity of the sport and the amount of money involved only means that prices are going to continue to rise unfortunately.

It seems to me that the same thing that happened to ticket prices in NA is happening to ticket prices in England. At some point, only upper middle class will be able to afford the games and the working man will only be able to afford 1 or 2 matches per year.

Not to the extent it is in NA. I know you don't care about NA sports but it's a good indication as to how things are going to continue to go against the average fan.

i think you're underestimating how grumpy people are here

in america, when you hear about another 10% price rise in your season ticket you get really pissed off. you think, i should complain about this, i should do something about this. but then you look out of the window and its another beautiful 80-85 yankdegrees day with clear skys and you think ah **** it life's not so bad.

over here, hoopie looks out the window and its pissing down with rain which just gets him even more furious

Going to the NFL London match that day, which I guess means I'll miss Everton-Pool and most of Arsenal United. Bit lame

Games are on very late Sunday night progressing to early Monday morning for NFL here, and that Monday is a public holiday. This has shaped up very, very nicely.

I think what is happening with prices in England right now, happened with major sports in the 80's over here. My guess is that people were just as pissed off at the time, although being a kid I wouldn't of noticed, and now it's just the way it is.

I'm not bitter because LOLrankings, but it feels like something is wrong with the rankings if we can win every competitive game for over a year and still get stuffed in the rankings.

pretty funny that it's England's poor performance at Championship finals that's knackered their rating, and Wales have avoided that by simply not qualifying for any final stages.

Jesus.

In his press conference before the Newcastle game, Arsene said that Wilshere is "just behind" Welbeck in fitness. Hopefully he's still alive.

Arsenal are a really puzzling club sometimes.
