Re: English Football 2015-16

I'm kinda torn between Man U and city. Man U is the overall biggest winner it seems, but city seems like a nouveau winner. My prediction is Man U gets Neymar and gets a championship. I'm not happy about no playoffs, but I'll sweat it.

Pick a belgian team, I think they have some form of variance fest end to the season.

Re: English Football 2015-16

More of a general football than EPL question but...

Why is the accepted strategy to "play for a win at home and a draw away"?

Where did that start, and what's the reason for it?

It's started in media, and the reason is they don't know much about footy.

Above post is what prompted my question. As far as I can tell, Nic is implying that worse teams will play for a draw at Anfield.

I think he's mostly trying to point out that liverpool's attacking style/ability will have hard time against low level teams defensive style/ability.

Most 12-20 teams will concede the loss against top teams when playing away and try to squeak points at home.

It's not so much playing for a draw more that these teams will be forced to drop deep because they have inferior players. Although it's becoming less like that with each passing season

Re: English Football 2015-16

Players/teams always raise their game when playing in front of their home fans. In theory they should be going out and giving it 100% every game but that's just not reality. Also the homefans can have a big influence on the refs, you get far less 50/50 decisions as the away side.

When United play Liverpool you've got loads of TV channels hyping the game like a heavyweight PPV clash from weeks out and it only grows as the game get's closer, the atmosphere in the ground is always amazing for games vs plop and the intensity the game's played at just doesn't happen when it's vs Watford/Newcastle.

Back in the day it was only two points for a win so there wasn't as much upside in non bus parking away from home
