City are the only team to have started the season above expectations really. No one else has hit the ground running. The real key for the contenders is once you start having two games a week how they fare.

Gabriel >> Mert? A Gabriel - Kos CB pairing would be pretty tasty, and allow Arsenal to play the high line a little more comfortably.

No CL for us is big - yes we have EL but I really expect us to phone that in and barely play any starters, esp as we now have a big and fairly deep squad.

I'm obviously hyperboling on chambers, but it was a truly awful watch. He was passing the ball in the middle from the right side when there is some dangerous pressing being done from plop, which seems to be a rookie mistake, but thankfully Cech GOAT!

I don't think Mert should be or will be dropped this season, maybe rotate a bit? but Mert-Kos partnership works really well thus far, but yes, I think next season will be the Kos-Gabriel high line one. He seems like a steal for the price we got him for tbh

i thought the point of gabriel was for him to play alongside Kos. and get rid of mert who is slow as ****. But you arsenal fans raved about how good that partnership was and that it wasnt happening. That he was olny backup.

Gabriel has looked pretty good in nearly every game since we bought him, but he hasn't played a ton and I'm still unsure just how good he is. He's obviously good, but no Arsenal fan has been pouring GOAT all over him because he needs more minutes to assert himself. Mert likely has another two years in him, there was an interview this week where he talked about life after football in some publication this week, worth a read. He's very well spoken.

We mainly attack down the left because Ozil prefers to drift that way.

The problem with Chambers today was that he telegraphed every single pass and never got rid of the ball quickly or delivered it with pace.

Aren't all xG deeply subjective because of the qualification of "quality chances" as opposed to "rubbish chances" -- I mean, you can obviously quantify that to some level, but ultimately there is going to be bias in the model (not towards a team, but towards the types of chances valued over others)

There's a good amount that goes into factoring chance quality for XG.

So the magic xG x some sort of goal scoring efficiency stat = football solved game?

:P

my guess is that if players consistently outperform xG on certain types of chances then an adjustment is made in the moodal.

its based on data, so if the data changes (ie people start scoring more from outside the box cos jabulani or something like that) then so will the xG of outside the box shots

This is what I thought at the time, need to see it again tho.

Coq got the ball in the second vs Benteke.

Draw fair result but Lino call makes me think arse unlucky , liverpools best chances got matched by Cech. Sanchez surely gets his shooting boots on soon , is there personal XG charts lol
08-24-2015 , 06:14 PM
Coq clearly wins both tackles , bit desperate defending but it worked.

Less scorepoints than Christian "disappears against Top 8" Eriksen. Obviously a worse footballer.

Bertie post the gif you saw of the tackle on Coutinho

Too many factors to ever solve football. Plenty of room though to quantify performance through advanced stats. Lot of cool stuff out there ATM. Geggenpress stat and fast shot stat that highlight leverkusens style two pretty cool ones atm.

Coq is especially the player we need in those situations, he seems reckless and too risky at times, but you have to take those tackles or else the opposition gets a huge scoring chance, he seems to be deciding correctly on those lunges.

I still have to thank Imothep that he wasn't sent off last weekend vs CP (which he absolutely should have been)

Yes I'll post later.

Can filter by player at the bottom. Note that this is only for shots on target unfortunately .

Nah Eriksen is better than Phillpe "goes missing in 90% of PL matches, but is still potentially world class" Coutinho.

Mert is like Arteta a couple years ago
Quality top-level player but if his physical attributes (mostly pace) fall even slightly, he may well be a liability
Gabriel and Chambers proactive fix for that eventuality
08-24-2015 , 06:53 PM
Second look at the Sanchez chance which hit the post, Jesus Christ Giroud with a great touch, cazorla great pass , you expect Sanchez to net there

I'm getting ads to learn Spanish when I visit 2+2 on my phone. Worse ad money spend ever

I think the offside was splittling hairs, could have gone either way, can't really be upset with the call, looked like his head may have been offside + the camera angle probably made him look more onside than he was since it wasn't level
08-24-2015 , 07:21 PM
@HH Very inconclusive on whether or not the challenge was a foul and on where the foul/great challenge took place, but does show that the defender was covering.
