Only one year ago, Baba had just been acquired for like €2m from a second league club and played an above-average season for a mid-table team that suddenly qualified for Europe. Why that justifies to pay more than 10 times the amount is beyond my imagination. Baba does have a solid track record in the national team though, but I'd imagine the transition for him can be very tough after such a sudden rise on club levels.

Chelsea look really bad defensively. I think they are fine on offense with a front 4 of oscar/willian/hazard/costa then matic / cesc double pivot. They were super elite last year at blocking shots and not allowing shots off passes in dangerous and semi dangerous areas. They basically haven't done that at all yet this year and it should be really worrying. Their entire defense in general has looked a step or two slow.

Chelsea currently have conceded the second most shots inside the box(only sunderland with more) as well as the most big chances (defined by opta as 1v1's with a gk essentially). Also opposing teams shooting accuracy has been really high (50%!!!!!!) which means they aren't blocking shots well enough (or there isn't anyone around to even attempt to block them). As people said earlier though this was arguably their toughest match of the year, and the last match they played a man down some of it (caveat is swansea was outplaying them 11v11 though so kinda moot).

Hard to believe a mourinho managed team will continue to put up numbers this worrying, but if this continues and there isn't any sort of personal changes it might be panic time for them.

Their official website is a joke.

Could Chelsea possibly be any less likable?

I think you will find match reports on many club websites have a certain bias.

KDB and Schurlle do really demonstrate the problem with the TSO method.

Its not that they were sold, but why. What is the why? They were not Willian.

Purely because of his defensive contribution Willain is predominately starting in the front band, on the other side its going to be Hazard LDO. That only really leaves the 10 spot up for grabs and Oscar/Cesc are obvious favourites here.

This means that players who mostly only offer attacking potential can ride bench waiting for those opportunities when TSO deems it necessary to go over to attack attack mode.

The problem here is that players who offer a lot in this department are not going to be content riding bench waiting for such moments. If Schurrle was content waiting for such I think we would have kept him. Dont think so with KDB as I just dont think he had the mental attributes that TSO wants in his players and plus was a bit ginger.

TSO does like to change it up more than HC likes to give him credit for, the problem he has is balancing personnel with his plan A plan B range.

He needs to throw in some more plan B against smaller mid table weaker teams like Pool et al so that his bench can support a greater attacking potential.

Cliffs is obvious. Park bus less.

He was genuinely diabolical, like top 5 of his worst performances I've ever seen vs Villa. For most of the summer I've been OK with him as there genuinely isn't any world class strikers we could get but I'd happily take Kane or Lukaku at this point because both would be improvements. It's crazy to see some players get booted from the team for weeks after playing badly for 20mins in a game but Rooney seems immune even after WOAT games. He should be benched asap.

Depay looked much better on the left than in the 10 and Adnan was good too, both struggle with fatboy up top doing nothing.

Schneiderlin and Darmian have made great starts.

I agree. Another issue with having lvg as manager is that he doesn't have the balls to drop Rooney. For a supposed elite manager who doesn't care about reputations, he's not exactly standing out here.

Sample size and all that. Played one of the best attacking teams in the league and been down a man vs a very solid team.

There's "a certain bias" and then there's that abomination of a match report. I would have thought it was a parody if I hadn't seen it on the official website. Generally, official websites stick to factual accounts and are pretty balanced in the reporting. The small amount of bias tends to mostly be in omission - a comprehensive 2-0 defeat will tend to just be called a 2-0 defeat whereas a comprehensive 2-0 win will be called a deserved 2-0 win. Unrelenting spin and loading up on emotive language appears to be unique to Chelsea as far as I can see.

I think you're quite talented - Christian apologetics would be lucky to have you - but I think the best move here would have been to state the report was meant as a joke.

What's interesting about Chelsea is how little depth they have.

Ramires was actually onside, he was played on by a player a lot of analysis missed because he is out of camera shot.

Dont think its that much of a joke to suggest the game might have gone differently if we leveled at that point.

That said we were of course quite variance positive to be only one down at that point.
