We built up Ibe and he was bang average today, I'm confident he's going to be a star though.

Just noticed that Villa v Utd is Friday, that's going to take some getting used to.

I believe that's a one off, due to some protest march in Birmingham on Saturday. It's going to be a regular thing from next season.

Ah right, yea it threw me a bit.

The word narrative was used excessively for a season I remember.

Consty already all over the false narratives...

Excessive fantasy talk should be added to the list imo

Full credit to BR. It would have been easy to take Coutinho off. Slow first half, lack of match fitness, extended summer break etc, but it stuck with him and it paid.
Really funny that you say that. He was literally going to sub Coutinho the next time the ball went out of play. Even when you grunch for BR praise it backfires on him.

If we want to ban fantasy talk, that means no more plop fans talking about winning the league in this or any other season though. So consider that decision carefully.

the fact that you can can talk about variance, fish on heaters and run good/bad here, without first having an argument about whether such a thing exits, is one of the real bright spots imo. the xG thing is often kinda interesting too.

THe problem is that seemingly everyone has a different "definition" for variance

Quite clearly, no keeper has sustainably made the mistakes pgame that Cech made today.
If you don't think it's variance you are implying that Cech can be expected to perform equivalently in every match through the season.
Why do you even watch sports?

Poster: "Did you see Coutinho's goal??"
PlasticElephant: "Not impressed, only goes in 7% of the time."

Poster: "Think Spurs can nick fourth this year?"
PlasticElephant: "Yawn. Who cares? Clearly variance if they do. Only have equity for 5.86th place."

Poster: "I'll never forget when City won the league at the death on goal differential!"
PlasticElephant: "I forgot immediately. Lol goal differential, tiebreaker should be xG - xGA differential. In fact, lol ties. Wouldn't be an issue if you just used City's 2.14 expected ppg versus United's 2.23. Lol at giving all three points for that win when the winning goal hits the post 13% of the time given median weather conditions. Not to mention that Dzeko strays offside in that spot 16% of the time, or that Kompany's composite defensive efficiency differential was like 126% of his career average......"

I agree. Try discussing sports with regular fans who simply see a game as something you either win, lose or draw and say things like "the winning coach is always right", etc. It's a relief to be able to discuss things with a community that understands these things somewhat.

Rodgers would be so much more likable if he would just embrace moments like that instead of relentlessly trying to frame every positive outcome for the club as if it's merely the fruit of his delicate plan.

Re: English Football 2015/16

I think it's going to be a bad outing for a lot of teams playing away to Stoke this season.

Obviously delighted about Coutinho's match winner, but definitely looks like the team still needs to gel a lot more before we can start to even begin talking about better than 4th.

This is like when spiritual people complain about how scientists trying to explain how things work takes the magic out of them or if atheists are able to enjoy a sunset.
