Re taking families etc. to tournaments - I'm not really for or against, IDGAF, but it is going to bring some issues into play that aren't there when you leave them at home. For a team like Holland it won't matter, as they'll find a reason to spontaneously combust with out it, but:
- Womenfolk may get catty with each other, a potential source of squad division.
- You may also cause division between single players and those with wimmin. Even if those with wimmin are real team players and let the single lads go twos up sometimes, that could result in other rifts (who gets the smelly end etc.)
- Whilst it would result in a tabloid frenzy, I'm pretty sure that you get all the upside by simply leaving them at home and getting some Roger Moores in for the boys occasionally.
- If Adam Johnson was still in the squad he'd feel a bit left out, as a major tournament could easily clash with GCSE exams.

Fwiw I had a bit of a look for any kind of empirical evidence a while back as a girl I know is dating a footballer, she said many professional clubs have sex curfews 24 hours before the game, which they can later test for and fine them if they have been misbehaving.

I agree it does have a certain amount of intuitive appeal, however in purely performance terms I would guess we are talking minuscule gains at best, which IMO would be undermined by removing player's autonomy to behave in a responsible way without imposing rules, and not allowing them to spend time with significant others in their lives (wife/gf/children).
