Indeed.

Will they rue knocking back that bid for Stones?

to pre-announce ones langering is the purest form of langering there is imo

Yeah, not snapcalling the £35m or whatever it was for Stones is another thing that goes against him. Just an idiotic move.

More Langer than Langer?

this was Kenwright's decision. He genuinely believed that the player and the club would both benefit from him staying, and he felt like drawing a line in the sand to discourage other oil clubs from coming after our top players. Captain Hindsights everywhere are now coming out and saying it was a bad decision as Stones is still towards the bottom of the learning curve but we didn't "need" the money urgently and the chairman wanted to keep the player for long term reasons.

Still seems a good call to me.

I think we all said he should have sold him at that price. I mean it's a defender, not some unbelievable attacking talent. I'd have thought Martinez has the final say in who goes? If he had given the nod to Kenwright then the deal would have been done, no?
03-19-2016 , 04:11 PM
Nice bump

I think once Bill tells Bob he's prepared to reject any offer for Stones, Bob is always going to say "cool, let's keep the potential England centre half then"
03-19-2016 , 04:23 PM
Bob's most embarrassing point has to be the jason derulo concert. Otherwise he is GOAT for entertainment purposes...maybe not for everton fans idk
03-19-2016 , 04:26 PM
I remember arguing Everton should have snapcalled the 38M or whatever but lots of people actually disagreed and thought Everton should keep him or try to milk Chelsea for some more cause "he's the real deal"
03-19-2016 , 04:26 PM
Everton can probably still finish 8th, should be top 8. Bob's bad luck could cost him the job as Everton fans are made. FA cup success would keep him in it but having to rely on variance is lol as baids implies.

Edit: get why everton fans want better. 12th is 12th but doesn't really tell everything and in this year's league, even with 9 games left, is easy to escape to something respectable and 'good job, Bob'.

Also baids you'll need to check that you haven't langerided JoeDiego. Remember him saying similar things, although likely with a different analysis.

Stones is the real deal btw

Lennon has been playing really well. A front 4 of Lukaku, Barkley, Mirallas,
Lennon/Deolefeu is pretty strong

Teams above us have not built significantly stronger squads than ours on paper, our squad is strong the results are poor

Currently his manager thinks he is the third best central defender at a mid-table side. I can't say I have seen enough to have a strong view but your chairman is going to have to really trust your judgement to bid £40m for him.

I have no idea why Everton fans want Martinez fired .... I think this is one of those spots where not being from / living in England you just don't really know what a fanbase really is like.

Because from where I sit, unless you came into the year with top 4 expectations, then where you finish from 5th to 15th doesn't matter as long as your coach produces some of the following:

- a legit run in the FA Cup
- memorable results ... beating a top side, winning derby, etc
- lots of goals and even better highlight reel goals
- develop young players
- improve the value and age profile of the squad so you're not in financial trouble

Like if Everton grinded their way to an ugly 6th place but Lukaku was always getting benched, they never had these crazy high scoring games, etc would the fans be happy? Wtf do they want?

And I disagree about the part on spending 28m on the striker means they should have some success in the table ..... spending big on a striker for the smaller sides is buying yourself relegation insurance.

------------------

West Ham could go 0-0-7 down the stretch and finish 15th and I'd consider this season an A+ success. All of the goals, Payet dominance, plus beating the **** out of all of the ******* big money clubs has made this season great. Don't really care where we finish in the table if it's not 4th.

I mean Europa league places have some theoretical value but nobody in England cares ... it's not like Spain where they always send 3 sides into the Europa semi finals

There's still a long enough contract to run (2019 I believe) so if he develops then the potential cash in scenario exists. Also not sure how anyone (from outside anyway) can make a solid judgement on him one way or another. Let him play and see what happens. Plenty of examples of defenders making it needing minutes and lots of time. If he turns into Ben Haim then so be it. Just like any prospect.
03-19-2016 , 04:42 PM
^ I would add that if the argument is Martinez hasn't developed the squad and it has grown old with him in charge (overplaying Barry, Howard, Jagielka, etc) then I understand.

But it seems that people are pissed about the league table position.

Then again Everton fans seem like a bunch of stupid olds. Like they always get pissed if they try passing it out from the back rather than just hoofing it 60 yards.

Maybe they just need to cull their season ticket holders.

pts since bob took over compared with other mid tablers

soton 160
everton 157
stoak 150
ham 137

plus semi of mickey mouse, semi+ of FA cup

its the classic managerial pitfall of early runhot followed by subsequent runcold. probably gonna be having the same discussion about bilic in a few years.

(i plan to langer this in 3 years and 7 days)

Too busy 5th of 18ing the Saturday Micro to talk about John Stones injury setback.

Stones will be back.

A central defender with a brain is hard to find.

The main reason being. If they have a brain they don't play in central defence.
