Excellent Baids
However, just for balance:
The Performance of Football Club Managers: Skill or Luck?
I'm kind of on the fence wrt managers. I think 90% of the field can be replaced with no discernible difference to results, hence why when you treat them as a homogeneous group (as in the study above) then there is little/no variation in performance as a group.
However there are 5% at the top and bottom (basically, outliers) who are truly elite in affecting their teams performance.
Therefore, chairman are probably correct in chopping managers every 18 months when their current manager turns out to be no better than the last. The next one will probably be no worse, and there is always the chance you will trip over one of the elite ones.
Assuming the duds are pretty easy to avoid.
