agree he's been good but disagree it's been seamless. One of Vert's best attributes is that he's so calm on the ball on the buildup. Spurs are vulnerable to pressure back there because Rose, Davies, Walker, and Dier will all cough up possession if you flinch at them enough; none of them is awful, but they're all more than ready to make one bad giveaway/game under stress. But Vertonghen and Toby (and Dembele checking back) are so solid in these spots that Spurs pull it off. Wimmer, it's too soon to tell. Imo he seems good but not a real natural at buildup play, but whatever, we'll take it, he's definitely a physical force and he might be a great permanent replacement for Vert down the road. But imo Spurs did not look at all comfy when City was applying some token pressure.

(Fwiw I think Trippier is shrimpy and meh at the defending part of his position, but his ball presence and soccer brain is terrific, definitely the best of our four FBs. In games where Spurs figure to dominate possession I have no problem with him in over Walker, but if he's out there yesterday vs Aguero or Sterling then mayday mayday.)

giroud probably still one of the most underrated players around, there are less than a handful strikers I would rather have as he is invaluable for the team in so many ways.
thought we played really really well(both ways) but it always shows that we miss cazorla when someone as good as kante is on özil.

Agree on Tripper - just amazing to have him as an option. Up and down, lazer-guided crosses but not good enough at defending to play FB. Which for 75% of games is enough to get him the nod, but when we might have to defend for periods I'd take Walker. Considering what Poch has done with Danny Rose, I'd back Tripper to be a top 3 RB ITBLITW in a couple of seasons.

right backs are overrated. what you need is a moderately atheletic centre back, who can dominate at front and back post (and win some stuff in the mixer in the opposition box as well), and consign your right sided midfield player to doubling up to cover the RB position.

Spurs stole Trippier ... I think they paid 10m less than Pool paid for Clyne (who is also very good)
