With that said I think confidence is more of a real thing that affects teams/players and I think is a better term to use than momentum.

sports where margins are smaller and visible immediately like tennis show how huge the psychological variable momentum can be.
while for tennis both short-term and long-term momentum play a big role for football i would say that only long-term momentum is major while short-term fairly minor
