He was moving house that day, he also took the test the next day and was clean.

There's multiple other players who've had a lesser sentence than Rio got after testing positive.

Yeah I think Hoopie is right. I'm really unwilling to allow mitigating circumstances and I think the death of a daughter just about qualifies. It's also important that he tested positive for a non-performance enhancing drug too.

Fwiw, I think that if Rio had tested positive for a performance enhancing substance it should be a lifetime ban, so I think a year is about right for missing a test.

And if other players got lesser sentences than that's where the FA have been incorrect, not in being too harsh in Rio's case.

If Rio took the test the next day and was clean, then a year ban is dictatorship excessive.

Wrt Livermore, I don't think that you can just go and score some coke for the first time being a high profile PL footballer - especially after the well documented WBA forward who got filmed buying an eighth a few years ago.

Judging by his performances for Spurs, Livermore has been doing coke for at least a few years.

pretty sure both EPO and testosterone can clear the system within 24 hours if you use a small dose.

Considering he missed the initial test, wouldn't they take blood samples as well?

Does anyone know how the tests are conducted? Do the testers only take a urine sample or blood as well?

Wenger said today that Wilshere has had "a little setback."

Wonder when's the next time we'll be seeing him then?

The weird thing about the Rio ban was that a City reserve player (Christian something) missed his test a few months earlier and got off with a fine or some ridiculously short ban. As always lol FA. Why be consistent when you can make headlines.

I'd set the line at O/U 3.5 weeks

read itt that özil got injured but nothing on physioroom
what's the situation?

Rio deserved his ban.

If you're going to give Rio that ban then can't hand out lesser punishments for players who actually fail drug tests. Mutu got less and he was blasting gear every weekend.

na that was ages ago and he since played vs scotland

we ought to have an "Arsenal players who are not currently injured" thread, it's not easy to keep up.

Big difference between recreational and performance enhancing drug use. Banning players for recreational drug use is very odd as it's a decision that should be left to clubs.

The punishment for missing/forgetting a piss test has to be tougher than failing a test. Otherwise it creates a loophole in which guilty players could miss testing for lesser punishment.

I'm gonna assume the probability of getting randomly tested while having something in the system is close to 0, otherwise things like Barca-ball wouldn't be able to exist.

Yeah, I think without a big mitigating circumstance (and moving house is definitely not one), it should be as bad as the punishment for the worst performance enhancer.

Can't be a draw between United and Plop as the loser looks certain to go into meltdown.

Hopefully the scousers get hammered and Benteke fails to score again.

that he's a moran?

- drug testers arrive at Carrington
- Rio is 1 of 4 randomly selected, he is informed of this
- Rio takes off without being tested (for urine only it seems)
- no one can get a hold of him until later in the day when the drug testers are gone

no other excuses given
