Chambers is a catastrophe, was a really odd signing and he's always looked out of his depth. Gabriel seems really good, very good recovery pace and aggressive. That Ozil, Sanchez, Giroud, Ramsey quadrant is scary as ****, and the Walcott for Giroud change seemed really odd.

Simply outstanding.

That's very promising for us going forward.

My dad sent me a ranty text about that switch, just completely odd given how deep Pool were defending. I guess we'll here Giroud was carrying a knock or something, but who knows. The attacking intent with the Coq-->Ox switch was good, but the Theo one was odd.

Our attack was also heavily heavily weighted towards the left hand side, didnt really put much pressure on Gomez on the right through much of the game.

Fad of posting everything Rodgers says is getting really tedious, most of it just standard manager bs

I was trying to emphasise his complete spamming of outstanding.

disagree, brentisms are a whole new exciting category of standard managerial bs

they were probably even in terms of being called, but Benteke is unlikely to even get the ball, it was just gabriel being dumb, where giroud is always getting a shot off from 6 yds away. He does slip as much as he's being fouled tho.

It's worrying we have like ~35 shot attempts in two games at home and no goals though. It won't last, but it's dumb.

Kind of funny people are surprised by the xG chart. Pool took a few of their half chances as well as possible without scoring. We had more chances, from closer in but mustered weaker efforts with them.

Giroud wasn't going to score today. If Theo gets on the end of the Ox cross we're all singing how amazing a sub it was and that he should have started. No problem with the switch, Theo can score a goal like vs Villa where the ball drops and he just strikes it perfectly.

his shirt was offside

is pretty special tbf

The best thing about the EPL: the ironic cheers. They're always good fun

Cech GOAT OAT

that is all

Benteke is easily getting to that ball. That was much more of a pen then the Giroud chance

hard to say, looked like he was trying to make his way towards it for some time but was being prevent from moving

don't even really think it was a slip, more like an intentional sliding stab

could be wrong, but thought the little push came after he was already into that move, and didn't really put him off much

and Giroud didn't really look to appeal for anything either

roughly speaking i guess

neither of them were pens prob, coquellin on coutinho in the first seemed like a foul and maybe a red though

xG chart is wrong, was actually 1.9 to 1.4.

Can't believe I'm getting sucked into this as well now.

How much of that is down to Arsenal being terrible at the back and basically giving up chances?

What pen on Giroud? lol

There was no contact and he actually just fell so it wasn't even a pen.

Yeah, you often hear managers talk about shirts being offside.

no.

Don't disagree with that at all rly, 72. I'm always annoyed in those situations where Giroud really could use his strength he seems to lose his balance/get pushed around more than it seems he should.

Both last ditch Coquelin tackles were desperate, but he did get the ball in each of them.
Between him and Cech for motm, Coutinho would have a shout if the nets were a few inches bigger.

Pool were good for 45 minutes, but then tired and just held on for the second half. I really liked how Benteke looked and he combined well with Coutinho. But, they played a CB pairing that had never played together before. They need more options to actually compete with the best.

My obviously biased view: we shouldn't let Chambers kick the ball ever again, not in an arsenal shirt. Gabriel seems like the exact CB backup/future starter that we need (great recovery, aggressive, good on the ball). Cech saved us in hte first half, clowncar defense from Chambers(I think he was the one giving away 3-4 balls, but others joined his efforts to make pool score), again Cech GOAT OAT +1point. The Ox for Coq was a good change, the Walcott for Giroud not so much given that Plop were defending deep as it was...
The penalty appeals or non-appeals are pretty irrelevant, not many of those are given in the EPL.
We should really incorporate attacking on the right, somehow it seems to me that we were pushing on the left all the time and left Gomez without any real work.
Draw all-in-all was a fair results, but more like a 2-2 than a 0-0 tbh...

If 'the best' equals City and Chelsea, then yes, very unlikely we can compete. No reason we can't push Arsenal and Utd on today's viewing.

Chambers was fine in the second half. Completely awful in the first, but the kid is what, 20? I'm fine with him having a terrible game attempting to pass the ball vs getting absolutely destroyed positionally like Vermaelen/Squallaci/Djourou.
08-24-2015 , 05:54 PM
ahahaha that was awesome at the end

Shame they didn't go into it further.
