OT (kind of)- I know about The Troubles in a fairly superficial way, but it's always been interesting to me and I have to confess I don't know a great deal about it. Can anyone recommend any good reading on the subject?
I would imagine it would be one of those things that may vary greatly depending on which side's account you're reading. Maybe best would be to read something from each side? Is there anything longform nonfiction-wise that's been written that is generally considered authoritative or unbiased?

Peter taylor from the BBC did a 3 part series which is worth a watch.
Ross Kemp extreme world did a show not long ago and it's probably close to what you want in terms of not being bias.
In the name of the father with Daniel Day Lewis is a good film too.
