No I meant the part about them having it better than us athletes when avg usa salary >>>> football salary except NFL where they play 16 games a season and kill each other and have the worst players union ever. Enes Kanter (who? Exactly) makes more money than like everyone on Liverpool.

Premier League operating profits decreased slightly, and Deloitte said clubs were operating on "razor thin" margins. Wage costs as a percentage of revenues hit a new high of 71%.
While player payroll accounted for over 50% of league revenues in all three sports back in 2001, today players in MLB, the NFL and the NBA are all receiving less than 43% of their respective league’s overall revenues.
any have a guess at what the revenue/salary split is in the BPL and various other Euro football leagues?
the NA leagues are all about 50/50, which is why the NBAers are making so much these days
(big money + small rosters = $$$)

good point!
Spoiler:
oh, wait
prob the only reason it doesn't happen in baseball is that players rarely make the pros by 20
(actually i guess it's happened a lot with draft picks refusing to sign)

its been between 60-70% over the last 10 years, will dip quite a bit when the btvditw hits but i expect it to creep up again
btw its probably not too bad playing basketball in bumble****ville when you're getting paid the same base salary as the similarly talented bloke in new york. this obv doesnt happen in football.
The percentage might by higher in some other leagues where everyone is broke all the time and owners are a little less profit-minded, but otoh there'll be less oil-$$$ elsewhere too.
Yes the more I think about it how is the average nba salary only ~$4m/yr
yeah - that seems a little odd, but I suppose there are plenty of guys who are 9-12 on their squads who are making league minimum. not sure if that really compensates for those on the max, but w/e.
the ipl salaries seem crazy high given that there must be many guys filling the bench
you can have only 15 players on your roster and the cap is 69M this year.
So average salary of 4.6M.
But then often teams end up having the rights of more than 15 players that they're keeping for their upside but aren't good enough to play in the 15men roster. Those people are usually really cheap like <1M year
ok - well you link to an article in the grauniad, but I really just don't believe that IPL players are averaging £2.5m/year. Maybe if you multiplied their contracts for the 6 week long league by 52/6 ???
no - ok - I'm looking at articles on the web that the salary cap for IPL teams in 2013 & 2014 was about $12.5m - so I think that guardian article is way off for the IPL at least [edit] if that had been a true salary
According to the inaugural Annual Review of Global Sports Salaries to be published later this week by sportingintelligence.com, the second highest-paid league, based on first-team salaries on a pro-rata basis, is our very own IPL.
guess the blokes that published it probably got a load of media coverage in india for putting ipl up there. smart cos i read once that there's upwards of 100m people living there
