It's all about Van Gaal, the tactician, the mastermind.

a rich man's rodgers

Rodgers is the better manager, though. So they don't even really have that

If it doesn't improve LVG will get the same treatment as Moyes. Being out of the CL costs United minimum 50m a season and it'll be closer to 100m when the Adidas deal kicks in.

The new sponsorship deals are tiered like that?

Someone called "donktard" sent me money for FF on stars, did you get the code?

The Adidas deal is 75m per season but drops by between 20-25m (differs slightly in various reports) if we aren't in the CL. The Chevrolet sponsorship seems to be a locked fee.

The rest we lose out on is TV money, match day revenue and prize money.

Is this the last year of the CL TV deal? I thought I read somewhere that next year there the prize and TV money for CL was going to be higher.

Uh, these games are pretty important. Of course Rambo will play.

We fielded a pretty much full-strength squad in the qualifiers against Fenerbahce last year, even in the second leg when we were 3-0 up.

Nice start to he season. Costa and Cesc were strong plus Schurrle was good. Matic and Oscar were very average and yet we won rather easily.
08-18-2014 , 09:48 PM
Matic was not average it's just unlikely his skillset get's best utilized in these types of games.

BPR WEEK 1

1. Chelsea - Hard to not put them as title favorites.
2. Man City - Clearly 1a/1b with Chelsea.

3. Arsenal - Is it time for Arsenal fans to stop hating me? The #BPR has Arsenal as a top-4 squad... As usual.
4. Liverpool - Perhaps I'm reading too much into last year, but this strong team has the inside track to repeating European futbal.

5. Tottenham - Safe to say one of the best squads, but I see them as a dog to the true Top 4.
6. Swansea - Surprised? Well, they impressed me!
7. Aston Villa - Early hope.
8. Hull City - This is clearly a rating on the strength of beating my beloved QPR. Probably not that good, but beating My Team gets them into the top 8!

9. Everton - Missed their match, so definitely open to feedback. Obviously a top 10 club.
10. West Bromwich Albion - They are always mediocre so they deserve a very mediocre rating.
11. Sunderland - Pretty much WBA x2.
12. Leicester City - I watched them in the 'ship. This isn't the normal promotion club. Should surprise lots of people.

13. Man United - Van Gaal historically starts slow, but this is really bad for Man U fans.
14. Southampton - Yes, they lost their 1st match, but I have faith in them.

15. Queens Park Rangers - Got to keep them out of the relegation zone in my rankings through any means possible...
16. Newcastle - They're obviously not a relegation team but wanted QPR over them.
17. West Ham - Brutal game. Just brutal. Going to be hard to recover from that, emotionally speaking.

18. Crystal Palace - lol palace. Sacking Pullis, lol.
19. Burnley - Not good.
20. Stoke City - Because why not?
08-18-2014 , 10:40 PM

6. Swansea
7. Villa

We had no depth due to a lack of signings and a few too many injuries though.

Time for the ladder prediction comp again, this time having seen the first round. Well you lot have, I was off the grid and didn't see any of it. Still, here's my prediction. Submit to me either ITT or by PM. If you can use the same team names as me and not number the list its easier to get into Excel.

PREDICTION TIME

Chelsea
Man City
Arsenal
Liverpool

Man United
Tottenham
Everton
Swansea
Stoke
Newcastle
Southampton
Leicester
Aston Villa
Hull City
Sunderland
West Ham
West Brom

Crystal Palace
QPR
Burnley

I expect 5th - 7th to be close. Almost put Utd lower. Daylight between 7th and the rest.

It's time to remind people the BPR are strictly metric-based. Man U were not that good last year, that that rating carries over. Remember, it's very fluid in the first few weeks as the kinks get sorted out. I wouldn't really pay any attention (yet) to a few zany ratings. They get more correct as the season progresses.

Given Manolas + Carvalho and healthy Ramsey, Özil, Sanchez, Theo, Kos, Mertesacker:

1. Arsenal
2. City
3. Chelsea
4. Liverpool
5. Everton
6. Swansea
7. United
8. Tottenham

Southampton = somewhere between 7th and 17th. No difference, ~the same.
