Cornerback is probably more impossible for the average Joe since they would never be able to keep up with a WR. As quarterback most people should at least be able to take the snap and hand off.

What do you think the hardest thing to do in sports would be for the average Joe? Hitting a baseball from a Major League pitcher has to be up there.
It's the hardest thing to do BUUUUUT pro baseball for major sports is the easiest to make it in for obvious minor league reasons.

I think being less than 6 ft and a starting QB in the NFL would be psycho tough.

I think he also said that he could see the seems on the ball when he hit, which is a total lie and not even possible (don't know the quote, but it was similarly stupid like the "hardest thing to do in sports" is, and has been refuted. That ball is a blur when it arrives at the plate, and there is zero chance he is reading seems at any point from pitchers hand to bat. That would be like a pro golfer talking about seeing the exact spot of when his driver hit the dimple on the ball after blasting a 300 yard drive. MLB players and PGA golfers, or regular baseball players and golfers, do not see the ball like that.

I think pitching would make the average person look the most ridiculous (against pros).

Most wouldn’t be able to throw a single strike. Those rare times they did throw strikes it would be like BP.

Mugsy Bogues in the NBA could make a better claim by saying that the hardest thing to do in all of "Pro" sports is to be a starter in the NBA and be 5 foot 5 ( he may have been shorter than that). Once again, almost all comparisons to Ted's statement bulldoze his theory, no matter the context. Ted's statement is similar to a football player saying that the hardest thing to do in all of sport is to intercept a pass. Dumb.

Even worse is how Paul Azinger wrote a damn book about his silly Pod system after he coached the Ryder Cup....called Cracking the Code. Total absurdity, since it was no lock that they would win. I guess that if they would have lost, the book would be published? He cracked no code. The Americans were playing on their home turf, and were favorites. In fact, the credit Azinger gets for coaching a winning Ryder Cup team might have been enough to make my original list, without mentioning the Ryder Cup in general.

Right. There's a chic I know that occasionally posts that quote on her fb, never said anything but now that I have confirmation I just might have to

Hitting a 3 pointer in a live nba game would be way harder to do than getting a hit off a mlb pitcher in a game.

Doing basically anything on an nfl field would be basically impossible for the average person.

Average person also gonna get literally 0 points in a tennis match against a pro

Every top 20 men's skater can do those with a 95%+ success rate and every top 10 women's skater could do it probably with a 85%+ success rate- maybe 90+% even in competition. Good luck to anyone that hasn't skated 8+ years doing that.

Try giving Connor Mcdavid (tried to pick the best skater) a year of training and let's see if he could do a double toe- the odds are iffy- a triple...0 chance.

If you make it a triple axel- then almost all top skaters can do it with varying degrees of success (save for Patrick Chan) and no one outside the top 100 really has a chance

I used to test it out on practice mode. Would basically run laps with Michael Vick from corner to corner on the football field while they all chased.

Nah. Hitting a baseball probably one of the easier things since luck can play a role. Plus, you didn't specify whether it was an actual hit or just making contact with the ball.

I'd say knocking out a professional boxer who is in your weight class is harder.

Lol ha. That's s good one Bob.

I don't think the idea is to compare how the "average joe" would do. It's how hard it is for a professional, that's why I picked NFL quarterbacking at least on a somewhat successful level, or stopping bron, which most in the league can't do.

Dis,

I was banned from playing with Vick on Madden 05. He's garunteed 8 yards everytime.

Saving a Matt Le Tissier penalty is a lot harder than hitting a baseball.

49 attempts. One miss

The point is LOL NFL teams - good for Hackenberg (he seems like a decent enough guy) and if someone was going to throw me sacks of money to hold a clipboard I wouldn't turn it down.

He's 6'4 and 220 (and white) - which seems to be 1) the acme of his abilities and 2) enough for a lot of NFL teams to think they can turn him into something he's not.

Good info, and glad to see this thread developing a bit. Wherever it goes, it goes. I don't think ole Ted was even thinking about average Joe's hitting major league pitching. I just think that he was trying to say something smart, since he is indeed the player people mention most when talking about the greatest hitter of all time.

So, not sure if he offered any context at all, which really makes it a lame saying. In almost all contexts (if not all) it logically fails, and doesn't offer any insight into the game at all, and since it is coming from Ted Williams, that makes it worse. It doesn't add any insights to the game, and furthermore, how would Ted Williams know about the difficulty of all other sports? At least Yogi Berra sayings make sense, even if ironically, and if they don't make logical sense, at least they make you laugh.

Someone like Jack Nicklaus will add some insights about his success, like saying that when he arrived at a major, and he heard players complaining about the course, he used that as an advantage, and figured it would be one less person to worry about. And he would generally play safe, to the middle of the green, so that if he missed, he was still in decent shape to get up and down for par, but if he was on target, he would get a good shot at birdie. Whereas other would shoot for all of the pins, and risk getting bogey or worse way more than Nicklaus. Nicklaus stated that because of this, he walked into many majors and won them by default, as opposed to winning them. Other players would usually lose them, and Nicklaus was always there to clean up their mess.

Ted Williams saying "the hardest thing to do in all of sport(s)" just sucks.
