Tom Jackson with one true statement in all his blather -- "This is a results-oriented business." Nothing could be clearer from listening to all these idiots saying it was clear they should have punted.

Reminded me of a guy I played poker with who, when calling all-in with J3o preflop, proclaimed "every hand is 50/50, either you win or you don't".

I updated the lists using this ESPN segment (wow Tom Jackson, but maybe I should remove Berman - he seems maybe open to BB's decision) and MW post on on Sports Reporters...

maybe - he just seemed to be more "the coach made an aggressive call and I'd go with it" as opposed to being enligtened on the logic.

with the one interview that i saw of him, merril hoge seemed the same way. Almost as if espn was begging someone to argue the other viewpoint.

Put Rich Gannon on the sh*t list. KC facing 4th and half a yard from the 50 and he says, and I quote, "After what happened to Bill Belichick last week, you have to punt it here."

If that's the exact phrasing, maybe his reasoning is so the coach doesn't have to face the same scorn. Bill Belichick doesn't have to worry about getting fired like many coaches do. He has the luxury of pushing +EV situations that go against conventional wisdom.

fwiw, I like simmons' approach to blackjack, because it's generally more fun. Except for blaming other players for poor decisions. That's the worst. I mainly just mean the dealers thing.

Mitch Albom- No, it's one of those things that if it works it's the right call. It didn't work and every single number out there that you can crunch says it was the bad call.

Ryan: (looking at Albom like he's a moran) Uhh no...

Way to do some actual research on the topic Lupica and Albom. Must be nice to have your job.
lupica and albom have been two of the biggest clowns in sports reporting for a decade+, especially albom.

I know. I rarely watch that show but I put it on today just to see what they would say.

Bob Ryan has a very high % of being right about things, and I liked his take this morning. I don't get the Albom hate, I think he's pretty solid. Lupica just whines a lot and seems wrong much of the time. Saunders as the only non-journalist seems to feel obligated to take a neutral stance so is pretty vanilla, but he's probably better than the ass-kissing Dick Schaap was.

All three guys are light years better than Bill Rhoden and Bill Conlin. And generally this show tries to avoid the obnoxiousness and Skip Baylessian devil's advocate crap that's pervaded so much of the sports media.

I can't remember who the fourth was but Ryan and Woody were in favor of it, as was the last guy and then Mariotti went crazy saying everyone else on the panel was nuts. You should try to find a clip of it if you can as it's pretty entertaining.

Plaschke, Paige and Blackistone were all in favour. Mariotti was hilariously against.

You can subscribe to ATH on iTunes and listen to it, or it's also on ESPN Insider.

Unlike most simpletons, people here can actually talk about a topic for more than 30 seconds.

During the game tonight, Al Michaels said something like, "people arguing against it at this point remind me of the guy that says the sun rises in the west, they just like to argue"

thought that was cool
