Was a 20yrd FG and in the current game state it's a small EV mistake or neutral IMO. A 2 score lead is valuable vs Shawford w 12 mins left

The reverence for David Shaw in the Bay Area media is absolutely insane. You would not believe how much he's adored. Like, ppl are actually terrified he's gonna jump to the NFL

shaw (and the god damned refs) is the reason luck didn't win a national championship. moreover i would have assumed after that absolutely god awful spectacle against michigan state that i will go to my grave arguing was the worst coached game in history that people would finally wake the **** up to what a mouthbreathing simpleton this guy is

I'll try to recap:

Auburn up 7 with a 3rd and 9ish with 53 seconds left ball around Lville 45. Lville has 1 TO left. After 2nd, ref announced NO CLOCK RUNNOFF. Petrino used last TO. So Auburn is able to hand off and then kill clock on 4th down instead of probably getting ball back with 40ish seconds left.

Always worth pointing out that 4th down analysis does hinge on your offense having a decent change of getting the first down and not being well, Virginia Tech.

Re Shaw:

He's not just too conservative- every time I've seen one of his teams play a team with which i had some familiarity it's like my "I got stoned and watched the footballs" scouting was better than his.

Whatever magic keeps his **** from stinking also applies to his QB, who I heard somebody (Ed Cunningham- who is just basically dishonest as an announcer) talking about him as an upper echelon QB. Hogan is ****ing garbage.

I don't think this is true when a team is down by 14. Then the worse the offense you have the more dire the situation is, and I think somewhat counterintuitively makes going for it more correct.

I'm not picking on you or trying to single you out in anyway I just think it might be a good idea to elevate the criteria for what gets posted itt or we'll get a hundred posts every game day and will have to wake thru so many of the standard (yet still obv idiotic) 4th down decisions in order to get to the truly insane/stupid.

I think we can all agree by now that coaches at all levels are terrible at 4th down decisions so unless it sticks out in a really major way (shaw's decisions would def still qualify imo) might be better left out.

dunno just an idea, feel free to ignore it.
