just want to say that Childress actually made a good decision going for it on fourth down earlier. I was expecting the epic fail and was, thus, extremely disappointed. **** it... I'm posting in this thread regardless

Down 14-3 Cleveland has 4th and goal from the 3 yard line. Instead of kicking field goal and staying in game they go for it and blow it. WHat a horrible coach Crennell is.

came into here to post this ... not to mention only giving the ball to jamal lewis once when you are on the one, letting your 8/23 80 QB throw incomplete 3 times.

going for it on 4th is correct there.

you can fault hte prior play calling. bunch formation to jamal is dumb. the correct play is fade to braylon or play action and find winslow or braylon.

regardless, the 4th down call is undoubtedly correct.

Freezing the kicker so late that he essentially gets a trial run of the kick just seems ******ed to me. I would absolutely freeze before the snap if I were coaching.

chances of making it there on 4th are the same as chances of making the 2 pt conversion. It is obviously the correct decision, perhaps one of the better ones in a given week.

Results orientated fans ftl.

Every time the Lions throw the ball near CJ he does something amazing. So they throw it to him 4 times a game.

Plus, making it there gives an opportunity to win in regulation, while the best case for the FG is somehow making a TD and 2pt conversion to tie.

ya, this is so huge in that situation. and pretty intuitive. to ignore is simply results oriented.

I'm going to nominate Frank Beamer in the closing stages of the BC-VT game last night. Just some phenomenal clock management, not once but twice he took a timeout when he didn't save the full 40 second clock. With two timeouts left, he took one timeout after a BC first down, and then following a declined BC penalty, he took his final timeout. That was positively John L Smith esque, if the clock isn't moving and you can use your timeouts on subsequent plays, save them, that extra 30 seconds can come in mighty handy.

Very similar opportunity at the end of the half in the TB @ DAL game just now.

Dallas 1st and goal from the 2 with 6 seconds left in the half. Brad Johnson throws a fade to Roy Williams, the defender is much smaller and completely beat but tried to play the ball. Roy catches a TD.

The DB should have just tackled him instead of playing the ball. It would have been a 1 yard penalty and would have left Dallas with only 1 second on the clock, forcing them to kick a FG or risk getting no points.

omg i came in here to post that. And Leach seems like a smarter coach than most too, you'd think he would know to go for two in this SUPER basic situation.

Literally the only thing that can happen with one second is they return it for a TD.

You are up 5 points with one second and the choice between one and two.

seriously?

I wish Texas would have run it all the way and won it in OT just to hear the coach's answer

"Well uh... I was all excited and stuff cuz we scored lol idk my bff jill."

Wannstedt running the same 20+ yard fade route 3 times in a row against Notre Dame.

Also on the list: Charlie Weis doing a play action on 4th and short at the end of the game.
