I guarantee you not 1 single Chiefs fan in the stadium thought - awesome the Chargers are going for 2 - we can win right here!

memphis vs wake in some bowl

wake scores a td and is up 3 with 30 seconds left, memphis has 2 timeouts

SQUIB KICK gives memphis the ball at the 40

after one play they are in FG range at the 17 yard line

memphis RUNS THE BALL instead of trying to score with their two timeouts, losing four yards in the process

KICKER misses obv after being ICED and a false start

That’s pretty bad even for a garbage college game

Titans almost ran out time at half with 3 timeouts. Didn’t come anywhere close to a td.

Is this thread just for dumb NFL coaches? Mike Norvell clearly had a stroke about halfway through the fourth quarter yesterday, what the absolute ****

Down 16-10, Philly rivers and/or Anthony Lynn orchestrated a 13 play, 31 yard drive in the 4th quarter that took 7:44 off the the clock.

Chargers were doing the same stupid **** last week against the Chiefs too. Every play was like a check down or draw that fed into a snap with 2-5 seconds left on the play clock.

I really don’t have a problem going for it there. But let the ****ing world-class offense do the job. That’s a great call on 4th and 2. Not 4th and 5.

****.

Eagles score to go up four in the second quarter. Doug goes for two. Is there much of a difference in win percentage up 5 vs 6 at that stage? Of course commentators hated it.

I'm cool with the punt fake actually. A quick googling suggests teams make 4th & 5 fakes at ~50%, that's at least competitive with (if not better than) even what a Roethlisberger/AB/Juju offense would convert at.

Also the key there is the 2 for 1 timing, which Tomlin actually mentioned. If the fake punt fails and the Saints score, most likely the Steelers get the ball back with time to score. Which is what happened.

You mean the drive that puts them ahead by 1 with not much time left vs a team who had scored 16 mostly due to bad reffing, only a weird play a HO TE never makes stopped them. , GTFO of this thread with stupid posts.

When Rivers needs to go fast he will huck up everything which is why he gets a bad rap throwing picks down 2 scores. He was doing what was going to win the game.

Chargers got the ball with 12:19 and punted it away with 4:47 left. Minimizing possessions when you’re a) behind or b) the better team is usually the wrong play. The chargers did the same thing last week - one KC first down after the chargers first touchdown and the game was over.

You should be actively trying to maximize your possessions when you’re behind, not worrying about minimizing your opponents. The NBAs figured this out in end game situations, the Chargers and most of the NFL have not.

Gruden just threw a challenge flag on a scoring play, after it was reviewed and ruled a TD. Since that's unchallengeable, it cost him a time out.

Made me wonder if that had ever happened in a game he commentated and what his reaction was

Disagree. Some games it seems the team who has the ball last will win. Saints vs Steelers, I thought it was a mistake to throw in 2nd down instead of just taking a knee and running clock. And then trying to score on 3rd or 4th. If my defense gives up 30+ points I’m never feeling good about being on defense.

Taking a knee while trailing by 3 or more is extreme FPS.

I agree - in that game, if they punt, very likely NO is at midfield in 2-3 passes anyway

NO kneeling at the 1 when down 4 is probably pretty bad, I wonder how close it would be if they were down 5 or 6 though.

With > 10 min I agree with you, but if a team can be reasonably assured they will have the final possession (and have a reasonable chance of winning of course), then do it.

An NBA offense down 1 with 24 second clock off is not going to take a quick shot. They likely run it down to about 3 seconds and take a shot with a chance for tip in, with no chance for opposing team to score.
