It amazes me when teams like the Chiefs, Saints, etc. punt on 4th and short. Even when they are at their own 30 yard line. You guys average like 6 yards a play and you punt on 4th and 1? GTFO here. It's even more hilarious when they do go for it on 4th down and the announcer says something like "They have converted 7 of 9 4th down attempts this year." Yea, no ****. Your offense is good. Use it.

Completely ignored today.

Ried taking a TO deep in the game after the Rivers potential helmet to helmet. Chargers had no TOs, and were all over the shop, playclock was down to about 5 or so, yet it was KC that took the TO.
I’ve heard that players going halfspeed are more apt to get hurt. If KC is running a noticeably limited playbook the defense can key on him and apply greater pressure.

My opinion, is that once playoff seed is wrapped up

Sitting >>> Playing > Half Measures

Everyone discussed this in the game thread.

The clock was stopped by the penalty already then, right?

I also remember Tomlin once saying something to the effect of “I’m not into that” when asked about some super obvious clock management error, dude is the gift that keeps on giving.

1) Citation required on the bold

2) They wouldn't be going at half speed. The blockers would still be blocking, the thrower would still be throwing, the catchers would be catching.

Mahomes isn't now MORE likely to do an ACL because he is now throwing a 6 yard out route off a three step drop to Chris Conley vs hanging in the pocket for 5 seconds, ducking between two edge rushers and sidearming a ball 35 yards to Tyreek Hill.

Yeah I want to say that was the comment he made about not kneeling in the GB game cited above, not 100% sure though.

Yea but Rivers was frantically screaming the play call at the line and trying to tell the offensive line. The play clock was at 5 seconds and then Reid bailed him out by calling a TO.

At the 50 when you only need a FG to win.

At Mile High no less.

Could have gained 7 yards and had a decent shot.

Lol

Was in the middle of playing Lego Jurassic World with my son but had the game on in the background. What did Greg do that was so awful in the final 3 minutes?

Obviously that 4th and 1 FG kick inside the opponent's 15 with about 4 minutes to go down 4 points was an awful decision by Vance.

It tilted me alot. I thought Greg's decision to go for it on 4th and 1 from the other side of the field was the correct one though. That one is for sure closer as a FG would force the opposing team with no timeouts to need a TD to win rather than a FG in most cases with about 90 seconds or so left on the clock.

I'd still have went for it though as it was a very short gain needed and not even a full yard wins the game right there.

This is really nitty and obviously tough to coach in real time but Keenum turtling up to protect the ball when he finally noticed Peppers is terrible. He didn't have time to throw the ball up for grabs, but he needs to fumble there, he should just flip it behind him to give his team a chance at advancing the ball

I'm still gonna use this thread to ***** about Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton - who as far as I know has blown 95% of late game situations in big games since 2012 - where the other team has the ball needing a score or long drive to win. He has never once dialed up a blitz.

Because clearly you should stay with what's working and not gamble.

The problem for me isn't the intelligence of these HC's but their ignorance to play correct situational football in a manner that has years of data to back it up.

Ya, for many it's simple logic and reasoning but they for sure have the data and for the ridiculous amount of specialist coaches, coordinators, etc sitting in the booth if they cannot call it correctly at least hire someone to remind them of the correct % call based on the situation.

It's almost as if they have a GTO solver for these situations and they are all "F" GTO every time. These situations have been "money ball'd" already. Just follow the book.

When I watch games like today I at least feel like Reid is top 10. I know he wouldn't spike there or go for the FG before that. He just hasn't figured out clock nuances yet.

Only the fumbler can advance the ball on offense on 4th down or in last 2 minutes of a half, otherwise it's placed at the spot of recovery.

jocks vs nerds, you don't understand GOTTA GO WITH THE GUT

The FG explanation is simple, if you go for it and fail it's your fault, otherwise it's simply the players did not execute and they should've stopped the other team, their fault.

We all laugh b/c we don't understand backstage politics. Putting all the praise/blame on you is not a good thing for job security long term in the league. The last nerd running a team had to gtfo back to canada.
