Agree with this as well. But then I'm a casual fan who doesn't care about cycling and really is only in for the spectacle. For the spectacle, the fans are a huge part. But I can see why people who seriously care about cycling would disagree.

Where would be spanish football right now if the Fuentes bloodbags were revealed ? The whole good run by spain between 2008 and 2012 happened at exactly the same time a spanish doctor was the GOAT doping doctor. Almost every cyclists were about to be busted but when government saw that there was multiple Barca/Real names in the file they ordered the destruction of every blood bagw
Don't forget all the tennis players especially Rafa.

Sagan GOAT

Looks too far back every time, but always ends up on the back wheel of the most dangerous competitor with 300m to go.

This is true but they seemed particularly ******ed yesterday because of the smoke bombs. like wtf at throwing smoke in the face of these guys who can barely breath (some of them even have asthma), that is pretty new for all the years i've watched cycling.

also we have enough evidence through the years of how dangerous these fans are yet the tour does nothing about it. you can get away doing the same stuff that you would do 20 years back when the regulation was almost non-existent, talk about evolving

Haha good one on the "women's" 800m in pro track.

I'm just a casual with nothing to back this up, but I figure cycling is a little cleaner than it used to be?

Looks like a walk in the park today for the peleton, 17 minutes back, letting them go. Lead pack seems interesting, get lectured on effort level then left behind.

Fans behaving themselves on this one.

gotta love Bernal (new Sky) strongly leading the pack in the last kilometer of the climb while Yates (ex-sky) gets dropped at the very beginning of the climb

Gotta love Sagan in the break for no reason then surging to fourth. If he had another 1-2km he could have won this, which would have been incredible.

neither of the yates brothers was ever @ sky. brailsford was interested in signing them a few years ago, but nothing came of it.

but yeah, disappointing performance by yates.

roglic instead is having an unreal season. he won every race he entered since april, crazy! (itzulia, tour de romandie, tour of slovenia). i still expect him to have a day off sometimes next week, but even if that happens, amazing performance.

So you never supported Team Telekom? Or should I say T-Mobile? Specifically 2005 and the team they had for the TdF then.

I never "supported" a team in cycling. I hated Ulrich and didn't particularly like Armstrong, either. Some riders, like Boonen for example, fascinated me, but I wouldn't have "supported" Quickstep just because of that (even though Cancellara was pretty great too).

Anyway, that post you quoted was more of a sarcastical inside joke towards my fellow euro-football posters in this thread, who all know that I support Bayern München in the Bundesliga, who are the richest and most successful team in that league (just in case my avatar didn't give that away ).

Pretty sure this is a reference to him supporting Bayern.

Been watching a lot of early 00's highlights on youtube recently. I got into cycling in 2003 at 11 yo, i think i had never watched a stage of TDF and that's the year I watched Armstrong fall down/catch back up (Chavanel was actually leader of the stage!) with all his old doped friends : mayo, ulrich, vinokourov, moreau, basso, kloden,etc... that was truly the goat period of cycling and the only reason i'm still watching cycling

for reference, the stage in question

Peloton got pepper-sprayed by protestors apparently. WTF.

2003, "le tour du centenaire", best TdF of the last ~20 years

So many epic moments

1)GC fight amstrong vs ullrich vs vino (amstrong getting dropped in the pyrenees, ullrich monster TT)
2)vino yoloing the descent to Gap leading to Beloki's accident, amstrong in the grass fields
Mayo at Alpe
3)Hamilton's raid with broken shoulder
4)The luz-ardiden amstrong fall (still bitter about ullrich waiting for amstrong then)
5)The last TT with ullrich's accident
bonus virenque's raid to Morzine

And yes, every name in this post has been caught positive, but still what a year

2003 was such an awesome Tour. By far the best of the Armstrong years. I still wanted to see what Beloki could have done if he didn't crash, because it really looked like the year where he could have threatened Armstrong.

2010 Giro d'Italia is still the best Grand Tour I can remember though. That was basically a perfect race that had it all.

It's not just rumored. There was clear footage of the policeman spraying tear gas/pepper spray.

2003 was the only time I can remember Ullrich being actually popular in Germany (started watching 2001). All other years he just got called fat. I think he would've won it if not for the accident.

God, I hate youtube uploaders who think they are some sort of artist. Adding music to a video of a TdF stage adds absolutely nothing, you ****!

Such a great stage ruined by a **** thinking he's "Le Artiste".

Here's one by another ****, who thinks adding ****ing techno somehow makes one of the greatest Tour stages ever even "better", but at least he left the commentary intact. Video quality is AIDS, though...

What can you do? Seems like you're stuck with AIDS either way. Or non-English commentary.
