Velogames has a free fantasy tdf game. You choose 9 riders and get points for wins, beeing in the breakaway, having the yellow jersey and so on. You have until Saturday 11 CEST to make your team. I created a league, if you want you can join.

League Name: 2+2

in, this game is nuts and is the best tool to enjoy every stages

finished 4th overall in Tour de Suisse

Cobble stage is so scary, I don't have any idea how this will go. It's harder than every cobble stage we've seen in recent year, if Geraint was riding for himself he could take close to 5 minutes on every favourite on this stage

Lol at your desk France winners having asthma. Like the Kenyan and Ethiopians all have asthma. Why is no one researching why asthma is a requirement to be an elite endurance performer when you'd think it would basically rule that out as a possibility.

Not sure about that. Fuglsang and Nibali finished 2&3 in 2014 in the cobble stage as far as i remember. They both need to put some time between them and the climbers in this stage

In an attempt to silence doubters, Sky released a bunch of data for Froome from the Giro. The article is here: https://www.bbc.com/sport/cycling/44694122. It provides a summary, while additional data is in links.

I highly doubt the data that was released will change any opinions in either direction, but it's still very interesting to see the level of detail that goes into the planning for every stage.

Yeah, I've always heard the reputation of Sky's planning and incremental gains. But while Yates was going stage by stage and failed hard at the end, it looks like Sky planned the entire Giro around a single climb on a single stage, even before the Giro began. And Froome ate an insane amount of carbs on that stage (19).

Strange how with that amazing planning they couldn't prevent Froome dehydrating badly on one of the most important stages of the Vuelta.

For starters Salbutamol has been shown to have no actual benefits to muscle strength, sprint or endurance performance when inhaled - it only has a significant effect with high, systemic dosages - and even then shown no benefit for endurance performance (link to research if you're interested). If you're claiming that the increased level on one specific day was strongly related to the performance on that day then the science doesn't seem to back that up. The one point counter to this is that as a treatment for asthma it obviously would have a short-term benefit but this is what the drug is allowed to be used for, and research indicates there is no benefit beyond reaching the baseline of a normal healthy (i.e. no asthma) athlete - and in fact this is why there is no need for a TUE for regular use.

The fact that a urine test is pretty much unfit for purpose for analysing levels of Salbutamol (among other things) makes the case a lot weaker as well, but this undeniably a factor in the perceived lack of credibility of anti-doping agencies.

I don't doubt that there is plenty of bending of the rules going on and that some of the rules around specified substances and TUEs are being being abused, but this specific case seems to be having all of these issues heaped onto it since it was leaked during the investigation and involves Froome, when in reality this specific case seems very minor. I have much bigger issues with Wiggins' use of Triamcinolone and other dodgy uses of TUEs, albeit they technically break no rules.
+1 - well said.

Wild finish to a ho-hum stage. Froome, Yates, Porte, Quintana all losing time.

I am glad I don't know what it's like to crash off a bicycle going 30+mph.

Some of those crashes just looked purely unlucky. Dust on the road or whatever. Not sure I'm a fan of such things out of your control via bike handling.

Pissed I scheduled my only truly empty day of vacation on a rest day and will be travelling during the first mountain stage.

Cobbles GOAT OAT imo. Maybe this was more than necessary, but I think I'd rather have too much than too little.

Man it sucks to be Porte. Wtf is BMC even going to do now? Tejay is miles back now too after like three separate incidents yesterday.

Am I crazy to think that Majka has a shot at the podium? Quintana is in a good position, but I have no more patience for hoping he will best Froome.

yeah no longer falling into the trap of having even a bit of faith in Quintana. Most likely that he had access to some super secret drug in 2013 which can now be detected. Now he just sucks

We should have an all-cobbles tour of belgium or something, 21 cobbles stages. guaranteed to be more fun than some of the last froome victories
