I was at Lords and Oval test matches in the 70s to see the West Indies.

Lords my dad and I were sitting on the midwicket grass just inside the boundary rope, watching Holding bowling from left to right. Incredible.

Oval was just something else, a festival atmosphere.

You could get in even on a Saturday just by queueing for an hour or so.

Amazing day
My first test was England v Windies in 1984, at the Oval. Peter May stand, buff section. That was when that 10 year old learned that buff was a colour.

Yes I used to go to the Oval back then too. My first ever test in person was Eng Pakistan at Lords in 78 when Botham got 8 wickets in ain innings. He also got 100 but on a different day.
I was 6 and went with my grandfather whose birthday it was. Thus I still remember the birthday - 19th June

I also remember 1980 at Oval v Windies queuing up outside to get tickets. Was chaos and for a little white kid from the suburbs, it was quite something to be around all the West Indians with their transistor radios. My mum said they used to bring Red Stripe into the ground and get stoned too, but I don’t remember that part! I do remember Gooch and Boycott batting well.

My biggest shame is that I spent 3 months living and working in Pimlico from July to Sep one year and walked past the Oval a lot and not once did I see a game there.

Caught some of that. Someone putting those sorts of figures up in ADHDball needs drug testing

First test was the first day of the West Indies at Old Trafford in 04 where Flintoff bowled Lara for 0

I saw Spencer Johnson get hit around the park in Canada 3 days ago. That was the first I'd heard of him

his follow up effort is currently clocking in at 30 runs and no wickets from 15 balls

bowling is a tough gig

Weird/quirky stat from the last 100 game that just finished. Southern Brave won the match batting second and finished with both not out batsmen having 0 off 0 balls. Can't imagine that has happened many times ever in any format.

liam livingstone and jason roy over harry brook in the odi squad is horrible imo. liam i can understand as he's a scary dude but he looks lost since coming back from injury and needs to find some form.

roy hasn't middled one for years.

i would also have him over malan, we bat so deep that i dont think we need both root and malan in the eleven.

Roy opens, Brook doesn't

Livingstone bowls some handy spin, Brook doesn't

Malan is an anchor, Brook isn't

Brook has played very little 50 over cricket. The one day cup happens at the same time as the hundred.

It's a shame, but understandable. It's a good problem to have.

105 off 42 balls in the hundred for brook

doesn't open and isn't an anchor though, so gotta take much worse players to the world cup

Please dont watch the 100, any support for that **** only encourages them...

Just a matter of time before we have "The Over" where the Glamorgan TikTokers play the Derbyshire Toobers in an epic ADHD battle for 6 deliveries each!

Makes me sick

Rant over

This post comes off sounding so bad. You have heard of balancing a team right? If your best XI are all middle order sloggers then you don't pick them all.

For every 105 (42) you get from Brook you get 9 other 7 (6) innings.

Moeen plays the same way as Brook but he bowls, same for Livingstone. Buttler plays the same way but he's got the gloves. Roy and Bairstow play the same way but they open.

You need players who can rotate strike and go at a run a ball in the middle overs too. That's Malan, Root and Stokes.

If you want to know what a team entirely made up of sloggers looks like then take a look at Afghanistan. They got 300 today because it paid off for someone, but the game before they were all out for 59.

Your head is stuck in the late 90s.

Batters these days are far nore versatile than you are implying, Brook can very easily adjust and play a run-a-ball innings if we lose early wickets - he just spent an ashes series doing it - and we will bat down to 10, reducing the need for strike rotation in the middle overs.

You want to play the flavour of the month rather than looking at the bigger overall picture.

Look at Brook's List A stats and tell me why he should get a place in the squad above anyone else that's in there.

Look at Brook's record in India and tell me why he should get a place in the squad above anyone else that's in there.

Just realised the Cricket World Cup overlays with the Rugby World Cup and that is going to be an awesome couple of months viewing!!

'harry brook, flavour of the month' sounds silly now and is going to sound very silly indeed in a few years.

watch him bat. he's better at being dawid malan and jason roy than are dawid malan and jason roy.

List A matches he played as a teenager do not matter.

keep half an eye on the weather radar at the oval today

the manchesters play against the southerns today at 6pm uk for the right to face the ovals in the final. there is rain around.

will hill is currently offering 11/4 on the men's manchester team to win the tournament, 11/4 on the southerns, and 5/6 on the ovals who are already in the final

if its rained off tonight then the manchester team will go straight through to the final due to finishing 2nd in the group and will be more or less a coinflip to win the tourney

same deal for the women that are supposed to be playing now but arent bc rain. northerners would go through.
