Am I the only one who thinks there is no way that that was a fair catch? I'm normally on the side of the fielder on this sort of thing but he clearly loses some control of the ball when he hits the ground and at least part of the ball was obviously touching the ground even if his fingers were partly under it. If there wasn't a bobble and/or there obviously wasn't any of the ball touching the ground then fair enough but with both happening I don't think that should have been given.

my mates who watch Shield cricket reckon Murphy is a reasonable substitute. Doesn't help them in this test but obvs helps them in 3 & 4

Loads of negative stuff in the press this morning about how we reacted to the short stuff.

My view is not so negative on the approach of going after it, but I feel we occupied a muddled middle ground where we were constantly putting the ball in the air and up for grabs, but the best result of the shot was a single given the field. I can only recall one boundary for the whole passage of play.

Either really go for it like pope and if it comes off you put them over the fence, or get out of the way like stokes

I don't understand if England is adopting the one day cricket batting and Australia is bowling bouncers why the slower ball is not used more?

Edit: and there goes another to the short ball. It is a great tactic against these Englanders that are not genuine first class cricketers (Brook, Duckett). And it is silly for England to first have used the tactic to trigger the Aussies given that we have the best fast bowling line up in the world (well SA is pretty good too if they get to pick who they want to play).

130/2 flattering to aus, we bowled well. khawaja's had about 4 lives and failing to review a 3 red lbw on marnus wasn't too smart.

we'll need to bat for 4 and a bit sessions to save this.

i cant imagine we will be daft enough to go after the short stuff on day 5 chasing 450 or whatever, so the aussies will turn to spin and its going to be pretty ****ing annoying if the son of richard head gets a 5 fer to bowl us out

If we are set a chase of 470 or whatever i fully expect us to shut up shop and try to draw. I think we are smarter than that and I am hopeful our reputation means that aus will bat for too long on day 4 and increase our drawing chances
