Except they got it wrong. Lara also scored a century in NZ so he has the record with 14 countries, with Chanderpaul on 13.

14 LARA (Antigua, Australia, Barbados, England, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St Vincent, St Lucia, Trinidad, Zimbabwe)

13 CHANDERPAUL (Antigua, Bangladesh, Barbados, Dominica, England, Guyana, India, Jamaica, New Zealand, South Africa, St Kitts, St Lucia, Trinidad)

see we've got another ridiculous "dance around yards beyond the boundary but still make a catch" wicket in one of the slogfest leagues. that rule needs fixing, now

i would quite like the rule to be that a catch is a catch whether over the boundary or not

it would redress the balance a little in favour of the bowlers, and also would punish top-edges which visit the international space station en-route to landing 4 meters over the boundary, while rewarding batters that hit it hard and low

obviously 0% chance of it happening as you'd have people diving into the seats trying to make catches and squashing kids, and the authorities would be against that despite the kid probably deserving it

That should be not out for me. Whatever piece of ground you most recently touched determines whether you are in or out of bounds.

He jumped and caught it which is fine, but then when he lands out of boinds and jumps again he's out of bounds and it's a 6.

Yeah that's a nonsense "catch".

I'd fallen asleep at that stage of watching the game so I hadn't seen that but I always thought the rule was that you had to leap from the field of play and then tap the ball in but then you had to fully get back into the field of play to then catch it (you couldn't just leap from out of play to take the catch). If that was out, and I think it was judging by the reaction on here, that was terrible even as a Heat fan

Think that's the rule for international cricket but domestic franchise leagues can do what they want. I mean look at the hubdred

I think it’s appropriate to lump the West Indies as one country for the purpose of the stat. It still captures the spirit which is playing in different conditions

Then change the stat to "most different teams scoring away hundreds against"

But it's not because they want to sneak the UAE in there as an extra one.

Kane and Conway look deadset to add to their tons this test even though Shah is bowling 140+ reverse swingers. They are in great form and this pitch looks like a traditional Pakistan dead road

As soon as a player steps out of bounds, they should be out of bounds until they step back into the field of play.

I commend the umpires for adjudicating based on the rule that is in place, as stupid as it is.

I struggle to think of another sport where what Neser did would constitute the ball remaining in play.

It would seem that some people think that random statistics are like quotes from a scared text. Most stats are fun and meaningless. Whether you list the West Indies as one "nation" or separate countries, both statistics are fluff. You read it, you move on. And then another stat is posted somewhere. And another. And another.

Cricket stats are usually

That's the highest score...

...by a number 8...

...away from home...

....on the opening day of a test...

...since the war!

Haven’t read through the YouTube comments yet, mostly Americans I’d guess. Jimmy has covered cricket a few times in the past couple years.

Bairstow's 136 vs NZ was judged best test innings of the year by Wisden.

I think they got it right from my biased position.

Thoughts?

Nice bit of selection bias. He got 33 off 23 earlier in the week. He's far from in good form, but good form might be around the corner. Kinda like Kohli.

Does anyone think if changing to 4 day test matches in India only will change anything? Or would India still dominate?

Why would you do that?

Draw is the most common result in India. Shortening the match would make even more draws.

I personally wanted Australia to win 4-0 for selfish reasons.

Now that's not possible I'm hoping for a closer contest in future tests.
