Anyone else surprised by Stokes not bowling at all in SA first innings? He and his 35 average now a specialist #5 batsman?

I think he was sick (together with a lot of the squad). Butler now has the same illness.

Ok England - a par performance now with the bat will be 250. Let's see how you go.

Thanks for the answer. Makes sense.

Re that rule - Richie Benaud was asked about it once and he said that if they changed it he'd be making a comeback (he was a leg spinner). He was about 75 at the time.

Peter Siddle has announced his retirement from international cricket. I might crack open a beer even though it is 9.30 in the morning here.

Not understanding the kiwis tactics this morning. It seems as though they are wanting the Aussies to declare when they should be looking for wickets. I know this short ball theory has been working for them but the Aussies are looking to score which probably isn't the best match up for it.

May as well just buy the tickets for the World Championship Test match now at Lords that it will be India v Australia. Not since the early 2000s has there been such a margin to 3rd in the world (or in the case of the early 2000s 2nd when Australia went on that 16 test match winning streak I think it was).

Nice of Faf and Quinton to each give their wickets away when it looked like nothing was going to happen.

I think England bowled very well though, there was just nothing in the pitch yesterday and most of today. I'm not sure if it started doing more later on today with the sun beating down all day or if Stokes just got something from nowhere.

Classic cricket double entendre from the beeb

Here's James Anderson. He's switched to the Wynberg End, so has the crack to aim at. This may be the world's most talked about crack, but it hasn't done anything naughty for a while.”

Stoke's final spell was fantastic. Would have done for far better batsmen as well.

That was England's quickest bowling spell of the match? It's insane to do that at the end of 5 days. Shows what adrenaline + desperation can do I guess.

Really, SA are obviously favourite playing at home but this could easily be 3-1 either way with the decent bowling + brittle batting on both sides imo.

Yeah going to be interesting. I can't believe that SA have no decent batsmen anymore where you could say 5-6 years ago that they had one of the best line ups - Smith, Amla, AB, Kallis, etc - I really hope this non-white player policy over there isn't driving away talented players as I do notice that there seems to be a couple of talented SA players playing county cricket (and probably Australian grade cricket somewhere...).

If that boundary catch in the BBL to get Wade out is legal then that's an awful rule

The much repeated joke from the SA commentators is:

Where do England players stay when they tour South Africa?
With their parents

Even though I'm a heat supporter I didn't like it. Reduces the level of the game down to social cricket level.
