Two crickets thoughts for the day.

1 I'm not sure that teams always know how net run rate works, esp SA at the moment it seems.

2 Not having the IPL-style playoffs is a big mistake imo. Aside from being more likely to result in the best team winning, and the best two teams getting to the final, it would make the group stages more interesting. The top four now look very likely to stay there and there are loads of games to go.

SA have a bloody terrible record in adjusting for NRR lol so no suprises there

The Proteas continued bizarre failures at CWC is my favourite sporting story long may it reign

What is the logic in resuming a match when there are 5 overs left, 139 to win? Is it because it's still technically possible to win? Dunno what the rules/practice are for situations like this, but it just seems to defy common sense.

11 Million USD for a ground cover? Why can't they use those huge plastic tarps like in Sri Lanka lol.

Yesterday was the first time I've seen DLS produce something clearly ridiculous.

171 in 15 overs with 4 wickets left will get taken down now and then. Gayle and Buttler wouldn't get 136 off 5 overs versus a decent under 16s team. ~95 off 5 is fair.

This tournament would be much better if the top six stayed in. #2 plays the winner of #3 v. #6 and #1 plays the winner of #4 v. #5. Would keep almost every match interesting.

The answer is simply to have multiple choke points of success.

At the moment its 1-4 good, 5-10 bad.

They could keep top 4 with an IPL style format, and top 6 auto-qualify for the next one to create 3 choke points for example.

Not having the IPL format is a big mistake imo. I did have this thing a while ago about the higher ranking team (in the group) having the option of batting or bowling, but I guess that could be abused if the home team were involved.

Re Duckworth-Lewis, Eng played a match in the Windies a few years ago and were 75% on Betfair when a quick shower hit the ground. The revised target meant Eng were 25% in the market. All commentators etc agreed that DL had failed, but one of the creators (Mr Duckworth I think) reckoned that everyone in the cricket world was wrong and DL was correct. I pinned him down as an arrogant dick at that stage.

if India tops the group stages and loses in Semis, I recon next world cup will have IPL style playoffs.

Remember in 1992 when SA were set 22 off 1 ball

I believe the record scored off 1 ball is 21.

148 off 71 balls. 102 of those coming in 6s.
Brutal batting.

17 sixes is a lot of sixes. The most amazing thing to me is that they were virtually all exactly the same distance - shows how perfectly he was timing then, as he's not a monster like Russell.

Also, has Rashid Khan ever got a pasting like that before?

The opposite of Morgan is apparently the Mali women’s team, all out for 6 in a T20 match according to espn.

The most sixes he'd ever conceded in an innings was, iirc, 2 before he got pinged for 11 today

I understand that things were delayed due to wet conditions but what exactly is the point of reducing NZ-RSA to 49 overs a side? WTF.
