Is there any data on how many expected wickets (trademark) go through 1st slip in each format?

Most do these days or at least half a 1st slip. 1st slip stands a lot wider than they use to.

In tests, he averages 28.6 in 22 matches.

To be fair, his first class average is higher than I'd have guessed and I suppose if he's been a great form he may have a case for another crack in Tests given how weak the batting is. He'd be nowhere near most test teams though, let's be honest.

To say that Oz need Smith and Warner back is an understatement. I assume that the Oz public are on board with Smith, but what about Warner?
Wade is only 31. Someone with good FC form still has a shot at being a good test player. He has 4-5 good years left, that's plenty until some new gun comes along.

I have a feeling that Paine doesn't want him in the team after taking his no. 1 keeping spot for Tasmania.

Pity there's no tests in that series.

He really struggles technically imo. Very difficult to change the way you play at that age and the way he plays is not up to scratch at test level. Ditto Finch and Handscomb.

There is basically no talent in Australia that isn't suspended atm. We shouldn't be selecting specialist batsman who don't look like they can make a test 100 (or even 50). Irrespective of current form, guys like Renshaw and Maxwell have at least looked comfortable at the next level. It's also why I prefer tolerating the Marsh brothers to the other alternatives.

Bowling is garbage. Occasionally he looks like he can bat but he is a headcase which is the problem.

Still can't believe Khawaja is in the team and not Darcy Short. What is going on there?!

Something else is bugging me and it has done the last few years even with the lesser games is the whole bbl format to only have a semi and then final - it disadvantages the team that came 1st in the regular competition so much that they could get knocked out despite having been the best team over 14 games due to the very unpredictable nature of T20 cricket. Is the fairest way to go for finals - 1 plays 2 then the winner goes straight through to finals while the loser plays the winner of 3 v 4?

That's what the IPL does and I think it's a great format.

If you think about it, if every game was 50% then you basically have 3 times the chance of winning if you finish top two. So, if all you care about is winning then you actually lose more equity by screwing up in the final game and finishing 3rd rather than 2nd as you by screwing up and finish 5th rather than 4th. Of course there is home field advantage etc to consider but I've got the impression that many in the IPL don't really grasp what a huge advantage finishing in the top two is.

Hopefully selectors have now realised that he is not a WC option and drop him to save this country from further embarrassment. This country should not be going back 8 years to revive a fast bowler's international career given the fast bowling stocks we have.

Exactly - it is a crazy format that really rewards luck on the day. Like blinds being too high when you get to a final table in a 1000 player poker tournament! I haven't kept up with IPL following the first few years of it and didn't realise they had changed it as previously it was the same format as BBL is currently.

Fair point. And I have no idea on the details about your Big Bash either. But I suppose that means we're just old and not useful. The u15s and u17s at my club do tell me all the deets about both

Lol England - obviously Bairstow needs to keep again and need to make sure that they don't play too many all-rounders (Stokes, Ali, etc)

Meanwhile Australia is realising why they need to play at the Gabba for the main test series of the summer and preferably 1st and if not 1st test match then 2nd (given Perth conditions were fairly similar to the WACA at the last test) to really make it hard for the opposition to win a series.
