Tim Paine just because you take a good catch behind doesn't mean you review the decision.

Well now that we've had our season of being good blokes can we put it away and go back to being pricks and winning. It is the Australian way.

Team for the first test against Sri Lanka

1. Warner
2. Bancroft.
3. Usman Khawaja
4. Arsalan Khawaja*
5. Smith
6. Clarke
7. Maxwell
8.Wade
9. Johnson
10. Warne
11. Doug the Rug Bollinger

Justin Langer stays on as coach

If allowed to be pricks, would beat any team in world cricket imo

*dependent on bail status

Bring back watto

I also hope India thrash us and take Pete Siddle to town in the one dayers as how they can't select Short is beyond me, and I hope Sti Lanka beat us so the selectors can dump Paine as captain and bring in Wade. I assume Smith will be eligible for next test match and he can resume captaincy immediately such is our dire stocks of potential leaders the Australians have.

Smith can't be captain or vice-captain for another year once he comes back.

Yeah just remembered that. This really needs to be looked at again.

Not sure how you enforce that though, since you can't stop him talking to his team mates. I guess he would be the de facto captain with one of his stooges doing the coin toss and media stuff.

And who would be on ball tampering duties? Unfair to have bancroft do it again plus hes not good at hiding it.

To be fair, his attempts to get around the issue jamming the paper down his pants, followed by claims it was a sunglasses cover/tape etc... was pretty athletic in an attempt to avoid punishment.

We have been bad, and we deserve everything. I actually think there is more chance we finish bottom 2 at the World Cup than make the semi-finals, particularly given English conditions and our batsman curious inability to do anything resembling make runs on anything pitch that isn't a highway.

We are not helping matters by not picking a guy that has scored the most shield runs and up there for top BBL run scorer (Matthew Wade - he can play as a fielder where he did for Tasmania in Shield cricket when Paine played for them also earlier in the season) and also not selecting the BBL top run scorer (Short - especially with his bowling to go with his batting).

Picking your test team based on BBL is just idiotic. Wade is a valid point though.h

How do you think Handscomb got another go?

He scored 70 in one game in between he got dropped from the test team in a bbl game for the stars and got back into the test team. Granted there aren't too many options out there for the selectors to be able to ignore that sort of performance and select someone else but the BBL got him that spot back.

Yeah I can't believe we haven't tried more players - wouldn't have hurt us. Shows that Warner will be a walk in. I'd like to see them try Stonis against Sri Lanka.

I knew that Oz were struggling but if they are seriously thinking of recalling Wade then things must be worse than I thought.

Wade has been excellent in the Shield this year and I agree he could definitely bat 6.

Short should be in ODI lineups ahead of most for sure. Decent fielder and can trundle now and again (along with Maxwell can be the two spinners and play 4 designated quicks).

Is Mitchell Marsh in your team?

Don't think of him as a keeper anymore

Yeah but that doesn't mean it's a good strategy. Shield cricket is one of the best leagues for FC cricket and if you do well there that should be the main signal for the test side.

See I've been critical of the selectors before and I'm going to be critical of them again - Renshaw. How does he get picked? Please someone let me know - average in shield cricket so far? Looking like a complete gumpy in BBL.

And Handscomb how does he miss out based on previous test form.

And Wade - what a pathetic excuse from the selectors that he needs to bat higher when all teams playing in Hobart have struggled to score runs there against Tasmania when he has and has scored the most.

**** you selectors - selecting a team is not a ****ing hard job.

Re Wade, him getting picked in white ball cricket has been a source of constant amazement to me. His average / strike rate is ODIs and T20s is 25.75 (82.11) and 19.91 (109.63). Garbage really.

In tests, he averages 28.6 in 22 matches.

To be fair, his first class average is higher than I'd have guessed and I suppose if he's been a great form he may have a case for another crack in Tests given how weak the batting is. He'd be nowhere near most test teams though, let's be honest.

To say that Oz need Smith and Warner back is an understatement. I assume that the Oz public are on board with Smith, but what about Warner?

random hypothetical: how valuable would a WK be if he somehow had the ability to cover both stumps and 1st slip (imagine he is as good as the average of the top 5 1st slip fielders currently.) At what batting average would you ignore the benefits of being able to have an extra person on the field? Does it change for T20 vs ODI vs Test?
