Apparently Warner has told the investigation that all the bowlers were in on it and he has also left the squad whatsapp group. Teammates are fuming and want him out of the team hotel before something happens that they’ll regret.

yeah it seems that CA is looking to minimize damage as much as possible. They'll put everything on Warner who already has a bad image/probably doesn't get along with a lot of the team. Will let Smith get away with a more lenient penalty and helps keep their best player in his prime age.

Be interesting to see if Warner just comes out and tries to sink everyone. He'll probably get a huge amount of hush money.

It was funny how Sutherland refused to use the word Cheat or even say that was cheating. That was just pure wtf. Everyone knows it was pre-mediated cheating, admitting to it won't change anything. He just came off way worse.

I'm a Pom who lives in Australia and I'm ****ing loving this. i do think the hysteria is getting overblown though but I also think these Aussies have had it coming.

I've heard via a WA connection who is an ex player that Warner is indeed the main driver and the bowlers ****ing hate him. Smith is going to come a huge cropper though because he's just not smart enough to do a mea culpa and I'm guessing that at his next press conference he'll be way too defensive

A few random thoughts

- no ****ing way the bowlers didn't know - they'd have seen the ball ffs.
- no ****ing way this is an isolated incident. they were reversing after 20 overs during the Ashes...which again proves that there's no ****ing way the bowlers didn't know
- the CA PR person who let Smith and Bancroft go out there after day 3 so totally unprepared should never be paid a cent ever again for a PR type role.

Let's be fair though, the umpires looked at the ball after they saw the footage and didn't change the it. We can't assume that the bowlers knew and why would those that planned it want everyone to know? It just increases the chance of it getting out there one day. Not saying that nobody else knew, but we don't know that.

Looks like Warner may be a pure franchise T20 player soon?

Warner might single handedly change the game if he just decides **** it, franchise cricket for me.

Aside from maybe the Big Bash people will of course pay him to play, he is one of the top 3 T20 players in the game.

The franchise model was always coming, the fall out of this might speed it up.

Lol no

The only thing Warner has singlehandedly changed is the bar on how low a professional sportsman and human can go

With Davey being home more often as a T20 mercenary, I give the insufferable prick's marriage 5 years tops before Candice loses the plot and kicks his midget ass to the gutter after which he struggles to adapt to life after cricket and develops alcoholism and spirals in to a deep depression. That is if the braindead chump has the mental capacity to even develop a form of depression

so smith and warner get a year ban from cricket australia - seems massively out of proportion to any repercussions from ball tampering juding by wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_tampering

have to assume it's because the media reaction here has been so over the top and sanctimonious. yes obviously they cheated and were bad boys, but ball tampering happens reasonably frequently, and the whole rule is playing with fire since there are allowable forms of 'ball tampering'

the initial nonchalant reaction players after being caught had makes me think it's pretty likely they do stuff like this all the time. should have just blatantly lied like ever other ball tamperer ever

anyway gotta assume they appeal

Ha, that's totally fair enough!

They were saying on the radio before the ban was announced that a six month ban would be fairly meaningless given the schedule. If it stands at 12 months then India may fancy their chances of winning in Oz I reckon.

Oh don't go there. When Pakistan toured England and caused havoc with reverse swing the camera caught one fielder digging his nails into the ball, and the umpires even convisgated the ball in one match. (Of course, they had by far the two best bowlers anyway, but still...)

Yeah, it was banned after that game. The reason it wasn't in the rules before was likely that no-one ever dreamed that a team would even consider doing something so contrary to the spirit of the game.

They were proved wrong.

David Warner's bandaged hands. I'll let the conspiracies flourish regarding what was on that bandaging (rough surface) and the ability that had on the ball, especially in his position at mid-off usually where he would get the ball to shine before going back to the bowler.
