WTF?

England 97/0 after first ten overs.

Have we ever had a better powerplay in our history?

Obviously most people thought England's score of 408/9 in the first ODI was just an aberration, a flash in the pan, and I'll admit I was one of them.

But now I am just beginning to think that maybe we have actually turned a significant corner in how we go about batting in ODIs.

If we apply to today's performance the old guide of doubling the 30 over score (238/2) then we would be on course for a ridiculous score of 476

Obv we still need some better bowlers too though, because we've been going at a shade under 7 rpo this series, which obviously isn't ideal

Anyone still using "the old guide of doubling the 30 over score" is probably still going about batting the old lolengland way.

It's hilarious that putting 349 on the board first up now puts you in with a "fighting chance" (in the words of Michael Holding).

Fair point

But with seven wickets and six overs left we were still on course for well over 400

Very reminiscent of 2006/2007 when England was hosed by Australia when there was no great reason why that should have occurred.

Does anyone know why Sam Billings is in the England team?

He's obviously not trusted at this level as a keeper, otherwise why bring in Bairstow for Buttler's injury (and obv not a bowler)

So basically he's a so-called specialist batsman, but down at number seven.

His performances so far this series are probably a fair reflection of his rather modest domestic List A record, so what do they see in him that I'm missing?

73 off 55 with two set batters, so this is still very much on despite our abysmal start

obv with five down we really can't afford to lose a wicket

I am still struggling to fathom how Siddle made the Ashes squad.

Surely Cummins, Pattinson or even Coulter Nile would have been better choices for a right arm over fast bowler.

It seems CA are just getting the most out of him as a contracted player even if they have no inclination to play him in any tests.
