Yeah, but I wasn't blaming England - it's just an awful pitch for any form of cricket. The players who have batted the longest are quick scorers normally.

Cook will probably get a lot more runs when DRS becomes a thing.

What exactly was the logic for the Indians having such an absurdly flat track given the series score?

No logic at all. Basically it's stopped either team from scoring. Probably the worst possible pitch they could have brought out.

Would take a total disaster for us not to win the series from here. Rounding off the best year of British sport in history.

I don't want to diss Indian cricket, but it's amazing to me they got to no. 1.

I mean, when they won in the Windies they shut shop instead of going for a very makable target - anything but an attitude you'd expect from the world no.1. Then they lose their next 8 matches overseas. And here, the way they batted out the first hour is like saying that have no idea how to try and win a tough game.

I think India were scared of losing. Some players are under a lot of pressure and a defeat in this game might have seen them cleared out.

South Africa were always better imo but they kept messing up their home series. India were very good but they lost their batting and bowling strength very quickly. Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, Laxman, Zaheer and Harbhajan were all pretty good.

Congrats to England it was well deserved. I'd like to see Bell opening and Bairstow back in at five or six. Nick Compton is about as exciting as Chris Tavare.

And Mike Hussey has announced his retirement as of the end of the Sydney test next week.

Devo... Probably my favourite player over the last 10 years.

Yep, he and Bill Lawry have the goat commentary duo sewn up imo.

His contribution to the game has been greater than that though. He played a major role in getting world series cricket up and running which brought the game into the 20th century. Seemed like an genuinely nice and funny bloke. RIP.

+1. Greig was a great big match commentary. A big final or WC game won't be the same without him.

There was a 2-3 years period where we had really good results. Won a test series in England drew in SA, won in nz & WI(lol but still counts), Pak and dominated everyone at home. So it's not surprising we got to no. 1.

Our best 3 players retired in a short span of time, and another one retired just a year before that. It should come as a surprise to no one that we are going to suck badly at test cricket for a while.

I'm not the biggest fan of Dhoni's captaincy so I do take solace in the fact that this is happening under him, result oriented as bcci is maybe they do look to someone else.

Dhoni is not a good captain. Although I'm not sure there is a better man for the job. Gambhir is vice captain right? Dunno if he has the thick skin. Dhoni is good at blocking out the circus that is Indian cricket.

yea tbh I am not sure if we have a good candidate, but I consider Dhoni an awful test captain and would settle for anyone else.
