yeah, England will have to bat well in the first innings, don't expect much from their batters in the second.

England will be all out for a hundred odd, no doubt.

Swann bowled really well yesterday, one of the best days I've seen from him. It wasn't exactly a raging turner and he really bothered a set Gambhir and Sehwag.

Pujara looks absolutely class.

Pietersen's dismissal was strange. Never seen a batsman bowled around his legs where the ball hits off.

Cook is a legend. He's only 1 behind the record for centuries by England players and he's easily on pace to become England's leading run scorer in tests.

Also Prior is clearly the best keeper/batsman in the world. AB is a better pure batsman but he's been poor since becoming the full time keeper and Sangakarra just isn't a good enough keeper. No one else is even close. I would argue he's top 3 in the past 20 years (behind Gilchrist and Flower).

Shame about the rest of the batting lineup really.

Why does Patel bat above Prior? England deluding themselves again?

yea Prior is very good.

I'd still put him behind AB in batting though in all forms of the game (AB is just ridiculously talented), keeping he might be ahead I dunno.

This match could get interesting if India doesn't pick up a wicket in the first session tomorrow, if England can get a 200+ lead somehow then game on.

AB has only averaged 30 odd in matches he's kept wicket (admittedly quite a small sample size). Prior averages over 40 and is a better keeper.

Still if i were building a world test xi id take ab over prior in a heartbeat.

I could take AB as a batsman but I'd take Prior as a keeper.

Sangakarra imo.

On the England test I wonder whether India will change their minds over DRS if they fail to win this one. Cook and Prior would both have been out long ago if it had been in use and not using the system seems to disadvantage the spinners.

Quick update for the thread.

A while ago I mentioned our indoor cricket team thanks to a few emails etc had managed to get on the radio with local radio personality Basil Zempilas in Australia.

Anyway, he is playing for our team on Wednesday and because we suck he managed to get Brad Hogg to play for us as well.

Worst thing is I am stuck in New Zealand for ANZPT and wont be able to play/watch it unfold.

Devo...

Prior and Sangakarra have played a very similar number of matches as keeper. Prior averages 3 runs more and is a better keeper. AB is the only person you could make a logical argument for having ahead of Prior at the moment.

I see Dhoni had another pop at the umpires. Great stuff given his stance on DRS. There was plenty of talk about this during the Sky coverage, but they didn't seem to want to say what many think - ie that India think they will get more than their fair share of marginal decisions so they don't want DRS. Pretty pathetic to moan about umpires given their stance really imo.

looks like Botham wants the same thing as I do on England's team for Mumbai

Cook, Compton, Trott, Pietersen, Bairstow, Morgan, Prior, Swann, Anderson, Finn, Panesar

India's stance on DRS is ridiculously result oriented i.e the first time it was used in a game we were involved in a couple of close decisions went against us and we lost he game, so ldo DRS and it's "unreliable" technology is to blame for that.

Once not using the DRS goes against us a couple of times, I'm sure the "technology" DRS implements will improve in their eyes overnight.

I mean i'm not the biggest DRS fan either, but the stance is lol.

And Ashley, legit csb

Is Anderson a better pick than Broad?

He's always sucked hard in the subcontinent afaik, and Broad has better variations.

I'd assume that has to be negative variance. Jimmy GOAT.

I'd stick with Patel instead of Morgan. He got a couple of dubious decisions in this test. I have gone off Compton already. England are too good to settle for a strokeless grinder like that as an opener. I'd put Bell in there as the long-term option.

Sangakarra is a much better batsman than Prior and he looks like a tidy keeper to me. His overall dismissals per innings in tests is still higher than Prior's and he stopped keeping in 2008. In addition to this he holds the record for the number of stumpings in ODIs and his ODI batting average is 14 better than Prior's. There is a strong case for saying that Sangakarra is a much better test batsman now than he was in the first part of his career which is the period you are using for your comparison.
