Watching one day cricket on BBC1 in prime time brought on some serious nostalgia for the 1970’s , “The required run rate is now over a run a ball, it’s going to be difficult from here”

Yes, I concur, they are only good at being annoying and obscuring half the ****ing screen, presumably devised by someone who thinks “Garish, useless and obnoxious “ is the same as being “Edgy”

Can’t help thinking that the “Carse - Potts” partnership belongs in Viz profanisouros somewhere

>13k people turn up to Old Trafford for the hundred and they serve up a used pitch with impossibly long boundaries in every direction. Alex Tudor's commentary was equally painful - he obviously doesn't watch the women cos he kept mispronouncing their names.

Funny thing is that his innings was terrible for most of it, couldnt get bat on ball, couldnt get it past the infield, he was something like 13 off 24 balls at one point.

I am a big fan of his btw, should def be in the england side

So England vs India starts tomorrow

I'm ready to be disappointed in our batting performance

Are England playing their first choice team? (Minus Stokes)

Stokes, Woakes, Folkes, Pope and Archer are out due to health/injury, but apart from that we've got who we want.

Think Pope is fit again actually.

I would guess the starting XI would be:

Burns
Sibley
Crawley
Root
Pope
Lawrence
Buttler
Robinson
Broad
Wood
Anderson

Think they'll go for an extra batsman rather than trying to get an all-rounder to replace Stokes because batting is the weak point and 4 seamers and a bit of part time spin should be enough.

Desperate batting line-up.

It's getting past the point where we can say it's a young inexperienced team. Sibley, Burns and Pope have had enough experience now where they should be a bit more consistent/better. You could argue that Lawrence and Crawley need a few more games to get into the groove but it's just not a good situation where 5 of your top 6 are still trying to find their feet.

Gonna see Root coming out in the second over a lot.

Pope out through injury after all

Welcome back Jonny Bairstow the middle order batsman.

I feel weirdly confident that he and Root will make a sizable partnership tomorrow.

Surely another player has stepped up enough by now with how much of the season has been played in county to replace Crawley?

The weather forecats is really bad. Ok until tomorrow afternoon and on Sunday morning. Three days worth of rain.

There are plenty of people who have done well vs county competition. There have been hundreds and double hundreds aplenty but just assuming they'll hack it at test level is foolish.

Hameed is probably next in line for an opener spot if they don't perform and Malan in line for #3 if that spot opens up

lol England 138-3 to 183 all out

The weather will probably save them though, draw currently slight fav @ 5/4

England better hope for a draw but there looked to be plenty in it for the bowlers in those pitch and weather conditions.
