looks like our bowlers have been given the responsibility of scoring all the runs, which is in addition to their responsibility for taking all the wickets and most of the catches

Now that England have lost the ashes we should really just give everyone a break and play u21s for the last two tests

Can't say something's a bad score until both teams have batted on it narratives

This is why England needed to go all out for the W @ Lords.

Similar complaint to my one about the Australian team but is it really possible that england dont have better players than this? Surely this is in some parts a selection debacle.

Number 4 batsmen is a 33 year old with a first class average of 36.
Number 5 batsmen has a first class average of 34 and yes he's a handy bowler and would be an excellent number 7/8.
Number 7 specialist batsmen with a first class average of 32 lol

These guys are all nutcases

Wade comes to the crease with literally two whole days to bat and is playing paddle sweeps to balls way outside off stump 5 deliveries into his innings and I have no doubt he will also be out soon.

I'm sure Shane Warne has loved all the 'positive intent' on display throughout the test though.

Repeating myself - Gary Ballance is a literal number 3 averages 48 in FC including 54 this year, 37 in tests. Why is he considered a worse option than Denly? Ollie Pope is 21 and has 2,000 first class runs at 60. Why isn't he in the side?

Burns
???
Ballance
Root
Pope
Bairstow
Stokes
Woakes
Archer
Broad
Jimmy

If Moeen was in better form, he's opened for England before, so I'd shove him in accepting he's not a test quality opener but we don't have good alternatives, he won't be facing Lyon (right?) and bowls good spin.

We absolutely bowl Lyon with new ball to Ali if he opens. Rightly or wrongly Ali is his *****.

Test technique is so bad from everyone.

I agree with a third opener at 3 for both teams though before Root/Smith/loose bus change

Sending Moeen out to open seems like a really bad idea.

Thought that Paine lbw looked plumb so why review it, then was confused that he edged it and was still given, didn't even notice the catch lol

i have sympathy for these blokes. making money as a pro cricket bat person means excelling at limited overs, which means excelling at quick scoring

cant spend all day every day practicing your triple reverse ramp shot and then expect to be any good at blocking for 150 overs. the instincts arent there. just isnt possible

roy as opener is v daft tho. just staying there so that root&co come in facing a ball that is 20 overs old rather than 2 is so important, roy is the last person on earth you want to hand that job to. good player but not being used correctly

labiashagne is a hero btw, these 50s he keeps putting up are worth double given the recurrent fiascos you see in every other direction + the fact that he came in unexpectedly

confusing that they couldnt find a spot for him originally given how shite this aus batting lineup is. most runs in country cricket this yr or something apparently

btw if we do alright tomorrow morning and get set a target of 330 or so i think we can def still do it. 3rd day pitch, glorious weather and plenty of people capable of putting a hundred on the board if they get a bit of luck go their way

Cause he is captain and Atherton is right that Wade should replace him as keeper (and obv make Smith captain again).

yep he is the only player on either side that batted with a modicum of sense the entire match

yep it's the old west indies with darren sammy team picking philosophy

4 batsmen, 4 bowlers, 1 wicketkeeper, 1 allrounder and 1 captain

He plays for Queensland in the domestics. Queenslanders are often overlooked now that Lehmann isn't coach.

one more wicket needed, eng 7/1

seems mispriced to me

our o/u runs for the first innings was 303.5

bookies must be using 4th innings chase dynamics in their pricing, but this situation isnt really that. its day 3 and not even lunch, pitch is fine. weather is great. zero run rate issues.

yea we'll prolly be 65/3 in a few hours, but 12.5% equity as implied by the bookies seems low
