Cricket Draft 2020 - Draft a test XI. Cricket Draft 2020 - Draft a test XI.

08-19-2020 , 09:59 AM
Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...HWk/edit#gid=0

Order:

There were 11 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
  1. PeteBlow
  2. ashley
  3. No Lynches
  4. feel wrath
  5. Eric Clipperton
  6. DonkDonkDonkDonk
  7. bundy5
  8. xander biscuits
  9. AllBlackDan
  10. sixfour
  11. tchaz
The aim is to draft a test XI.

Eligible players: anyone who played a test after 1969.

However, you only get the post-1969 portion of a player's career.

To use Ashley's example - if the cut-off date had been 1945 you would only get his preformance on the 1948 tour of England if you chose Bradman with a pick.

Undrafteds: no mention of as yet undrafted players itt.

Pick order: standard snake .. ABBAABBAABB ..so in the first round #1 goes first, int the second and third rounds #11 goes first and so on.

Clock: you have four hours from the previous pick to make a pick (however, see night immediately below). If you are going to be AFK and anticipate the draft may reach you please send a pick (or alternative picks dependent on picks still to be made before yours) in advance to someone after you.

Night: important - everyone please pick your own 6 (six) hour night period and fill this in on the spreadsheet.

Explanation: We have many different time zones represented so no single down-period makes sense. Instead you have the grace period of your personal six hours (plus the usual four hours for the pick) if you become 'up' during your night time. If people could confirm they understand this, eg, when they make their first pick that would be great.

200 Tests? 15,000 test runs? 100 international hundreds? Regarded as a god in his native India?

Sachin Tendulkar.

Mine too but I'm glad I wasn't up first. I'd rather have 8th and 15th pick than Tendulkar and 22nd pick. I think that around about pick 20 we'll be not getting our first choices for any position.

Tendulkar is the obvious goat but he's never really excited me.

No write up as I am about to head to bed but I will take Brian Lara.

Two of the top three highest Test scores of all time including the only 400* ever made.

Will make my dead hours 1am-7am Perth time rest of the way (which is now for six hours pretty much).

My favourite moment watching cricket live was Lara being bowled for a duck by [undrafted] in 2004

Yeah Lara's great if you like watching someone bat for days just to get a record and then draw the match

Also I think Sachin and Brian for batsmen anyway are automatic number 1 and 2 picks. Brian was the more inconsistent but on his day could hit some huge scores and not look like getting out despite the shots he was playing. Sachin very much followed the mould of a Gavaskar but obviously much more attacking and had the flare of a modern day batsman. And the longevity of his career should not be forgotten - over 4 decades at the top.

I’d agree with most of that, but ‘over 4 decades at the top’ is pushing it a bit.
He made his first class debut at 14 in 1987 and retired from all cricket in 2013, 26 years later.

I do remember reading about his ridiculous partnership with Kambli when I was at school.

Yeah that on top for 4 decades was a bit of an exaggeration - meant 3 of the 4 decades.

Murali wasn't who I thought would be the second bowler off the board

It wasn’t who I was gonna pick until about ten mins before I picked him (this has come round far quicker than I expected and I haven’t done any planning yet)

I must admit that he wasn’t my favourite bowler so I might regret it but i got swayed by the Sachin and Lara picks and just went with the volume of excellence which is too hard to ignore.

Think it's a bit high for Murali. Poor stats in Australia and India.

Great bowler obviously, but 89 wickets @ 13 a clip versus Bangladesh inflates his stats a small amount, though obviously you have to beat whoever they put in front of you.
