Those were half of Vandy's 9 win seasons in history. The other half were 1915 and 1904. I despise Pedo St. But he has made them right in the mix.
With a **** nonconference schedule any good coach should be able to win 9 games anywhere. Vandy under Franklin beat one SEC team with a .500 or better conference record in three years. Two more that were 3-5. Eight that were 2-6 or worse.
To be elite he needed to sustain that success and further build the program or at least have one 10+ win season there.
At Penn State he was on the hot seat after his first two years. He had a very good season last year.
He is somewhere in the lower end of the second tier with Gundy, Jimbo, D'Antonio, Malzahn, Snyder and the RIP for now bros- Miles, Briles, Chip.
